Halloween Horror Nights 2018
So since tonight, I actually completed all 10 houses, I thought I’d go through and talk about them, rate them cause HHN is part of me dammit...anyways keep reading...
Not particularly a scary house but I don’t think it really needs to be. They took some pretty relevant sequences from the show and included them in the walk through and that’s always good. The set was decent, I just wish there was more of the Upsidedown- which is the craziest part of Stranger Things in the first place. But not bad, Universal- not bad. 3.5/5
I have to say, HHN never disappoints when it comes to the Michael Myers franchise. This is the third time they’re doing a Halloween house. They did a Halloween original a few years back, Halloween II last year and now we have this. For those of you wondering about part III, google it and you’ll see exactly why Universal was smart enough to not rock that boat.
I was quite impressed with this. People aren’t probably too familiar with this one, but they really got all of the most important parts in here. The end was impeccable and Michael isn’t the only one we have to keep an eye out for. Loved it! 5/5
3. SCARY TALES: DEADLY EVER AFTER
So this is one of the originals this year. Pretty cool concept of the fairy tales we know growing up, except now they’re all either dead or doing the killing. You’ll see Humpdy Dumpty , you’ll see the Three Little Pigs (they aren’t so little and it’s was my favorite part).
It’s not the most jaw-dropping house and I wouldn’t wait longer than 30 min to see it but it’s a solid original idea. 3.5/5
4. CARNIVAL GRAVEYARD: RUST IN PIECES
I will start this off by saying that I’m OVER clown and carnival themes for HHN. It’s one of the themes that they have used and abused for sure. Putting that aside, I actually liked this house. I felt like they took every Jack and Chance idea and threw it all in here and added some fences and items connected to string so someone can clack them together from above.
Good house, but hopefully they’ll give the whole circus/carnival/clown nightmare- a break. 3/5
So I wasn’t looking forward to this one at all. I don’t think any of the films are scary of the slightest and I couldn’t wrap my head around how they were going to make a house on this. I was shocked you guys. They really proved me wrong with this one.
I like this house more than the actual movies. Had a few good scares and really used the few creepy aspects that the movie does have, to their advantage. Impressive house. 4/5
Hands down, my favorite house this year. I’m such a huge fan of 80’s B horror movies and this house pretty much mocks them. Before you go in, there is a projector playing all these trailers to different B horrors and it’s exactly what you’re going to see in the house.
The scares were good, every single part of the set was perfection and the whole entire concept was so fuckin good. Yet again, an original is my favorite, just like last years awesome original, Scarecrow. 5/5
Another original and I have to say it’s my least favorite one at that. It’s not a bad house by any means, the concept reminds me of the house “Doom” they released a few years back- about the end of the world and the apocalypse that comes after.
There were a few times they got me. The monsters are disguised in really cool plant like costumes or in these mesh looking things. Wouldn’t wait longer than 20 mins for this though. 3/5
This house is definitely my runner up. It’s my favorite horror movie so I was excited but also critical with this one. I have to say, HHN did an extraordinary job on the set. If you haven’t seen this film, first of all- get on it. Second of all, you’ll know it’s not really scary as it is just fuckin cool. It’s like the adult version of Halloweentown.
So this one isn’t intended to really be scary but they did get me a few times. This house is so good and they really had a knack this year for the details from the film. Excellent house y’all. 5/5
Okay. Speaking of played out shit, I’m also done with The Purge. This is yet the 3rd time I feel like I’m seeing the same exact stuff. I’m over it. HHN makes too much money to have shit on repeat as much as they do. Getting that out of the way, I was happy they used Happy Death Day, because I loved that movie.
It was never going to be scary, but I thought it was a good addition. But they put that first and The Purge as the exit sequence and I wish they would’ve switched them around. For me, this is the worst house out of all 10. If they would’ve kept it strictly HDD, then maybe it wouldn’t have been forgettable. I’m hoping this will be the last of The Purge for a while. 2/5
10. DEAD EXPOSURE: PATIENT ZERO
This house was badass. If you don’t like strobe lights, then this house is NOT FOR YOU. There’s a lot going on in this one and let me tell you, out of all the houses, this one actually made me jump.
The execution was on point and the monsters surprised me because I had no expedition. It’s worth the wait for sure! 4.5/5
1. REVENGE OF CHUCKY 3.5/5
3. KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE 4.5/5
5. VAMP 85: NEW YEARS EVE 3.5/5
