I’ve always been a big fan of the books; I borrowed a new book every library lesson of year four, and even when I reached high school, it was still the go-to book series, you could easily just pick one up whenever, read all the comics, the lame jokes and do the quizzes. The two books I actually own are endlessly dog eared, have answers circled and stained from such well use.
Then, when I saw ‘Groovy Greeks’ on my TV screen last, last December, and the consequent summer mini marathons. I slowly fell in love. With the sketches, the songs, the cast. Then came the essential stalking of the show on the internet, and I actually lurked Tumblr for a number of months before I made an account, and I’ve got to say, the fandom is pretty damn awesome. We’re small, but amazing.
The behind the scenes videos were watched, the casts’ Twitter accounts were stalked and I woke up early every Saturday so I could see each series 4 episode as it was uploaded on youtube. I was introduced to a whole new world of history, my interest rekindled. I started watching history docos and movies/TV shows as well as reading books/internet info, learned so much useless but not useless info and now, having been sick for the past 4 days, I’ve had a massive HH marathon, watching all the episodes from series 1 episode 1, and this last episode and song made me cry (I think everyone at least got teary) but I’m still so thankful to everyone involved in the show for truly putting their heart and soul into the show.
I’ll miss Bob Hale, Stupid Deaths, Shouty Man, Charlie, Rattus and all the rest but we will have specials in the future, the cast will go on to other fantastic things, and there are always old episodes to re-watch. And re-watch, and re-watch.
HH cast and crew, you really did make history horrible (in a good way)
