🤺 - to challenge your muse to a sparring match . Lynn and Sidney having a dance off

Another weekend meant another show. By now, Lynn had done enough of these that any sense of stage fright she had before had now dissipated. And instead felt a sort of adrenaline rush when knowing she was to perform in front of others. She would take the once overwhelming spot light to her advantage.
She wasn't the only one performing that evening. Sidney, a long time rival turned mentor had joined her. Or rather they had mutually challenged each other to a dance off. Right at the Fallarbor contest hall. The usual tension between the two definitely lingered in the air. In the moments before the music even started. Even the crowd seemed deathly silent.
There was some argument before between the two of them. Wasn't there? Hell, she couldn't even remember what it was. The stage itself styled like a half a haunted beachscape and the other half a decrypted and abandoned cityscape. The lights dim except for the moonlit water backdrop and the bright rolling fog. All of which accentuated the idea that something cursed may have been lurking beneath the surface. And maybe there was? Both water and dark type shadows could be seen moving about just as the music slowly picked up.
The song choice was something done in a call and response format. Starting with a sort of orchestral build up. Each movement was carefully crafted at first. Sharp yet unnatural. A tug on each others limbs or a grab at the waist. Ones that brought their faces just inches away only to pull back.
There were burst of intensity just at the right moments. And why wouldn't it be? Both rivals had a love for the macabre. Even if Lynn herself was defiantly girlypop. But this was her way of performing outside of the box. An idea she picked up during her lessons with Sidney.
There were times that during a confronting spin or dip one of them could have very well fallen off the stage, only to be jerked back right at the last moment. Symbolizing that whatever curse had their hold liked to play around with it's 'victims'.
Yet, despite all this there was a strong level of respect for one another. As much as they created their own horrors they protected each other as well. One could say there was that challenge to keep up. Which in the end, as she was catching her breathe after the intense performance Lynn didn't really care on who won that battle. Cause it was exhilarating and a reminder that she needed to keep pushing against her own past.
