You should definitely, definitely, definitely ask first. For lots of reasons; have been thinking on this and will post more momentarily.

Also worth saying: most authors will be really excited that you’re asking. Really excited. Whether or not they’re up for it, it’s a huge compliment to know that someone cares enough about your work to want to spend that kind of time with it!!

can i just say that ive long since become indifferent to alistair cause fandom & all ruined him for me but i get a little flutter any time i see art of him & anora from you. i think they're growing on me. & also hi! miss you <3

i’m in the same boat tbh i do not care about alistair at all unless he’s with anora, and that’s 100% because of the fandom. i just can’t stomach him anymore and it saddens me, because i used to really like his character.

but i’ve learned to appreciate a new facet of him when he’s paired with anora, and i get really invested in how he’ll grow as a ruler and as a human being under her influence. i mentioned it yesterday, but i really do love arranged marriage where people make the most of their difficult situation, and unexpectedly fall in love the more they get to know each other.

they start off on the worst possible scenario but they don’t actually hate one other. alistair will grow, he will mature - he’s so impossibly young and idealistic in Origins, he might always despise loghain but i believe his hatred won’t rebound on anora, and he might even begrudgingly come to term with having loghain as his father-in-law - and anora, as the pragmatic woman and leader that she is, will make do. she’s has to deal with an arranged marriage before, and she knows this alliance is for the good of the country and its people. 

and they can be so good to one another. alistair wants to belong, he wants a family, he wants someone to love him. he can find that with anora, once she gets over the resemblance with cailan, once she begins to see him for who he is, and not what she’s been told he is. and anora has only been with a man who did not really love her, didn’t really cherish her, didn’t really realize her brilliance. i think she’d be surprised by how eager to learn, how respectful of her skills and political acumen and how caring and free in his affections he’d be with her. they’d make it work, slowly, gradually. and then love happens, unexpectedly. as it always does.
