❛ run! ❜
..Run?
"....?"
Gon had thought he was fast; thought he had hit wits about him at all times and that nothing could get past him, but faced with one of the strongest men alive his own weakness and shortcomings became all the more apparent to him. He turned around to see the commotion, all happening so suddenly but in his vision it felt like slow motion. The enemy had found them and decided on an ambush. How hadn't he spotted them sooner? How long had Netero been aware of their presence?
The quick, thundering clash of weapons towards them had been too quick for Gon. Had Netero not been there to warm him he'd have surely lost a limb to it, but as it happened Netero had been there, and he'd heard the warning quick enough to bounce of the balls of his feet and sprint towards temporary safely.
When he looked back his pupils dilated in a sea of fiery amber, watching as a mass of enemy weapons came down on the earth like a rain of steel; Gon had been lucky to make it out of death's storm without so much as a scratch. But he was still well and truly pissed off.
This was his mission, his time to shine! Gon was supposed to be proving himself to Netero and Ging and he'd already fallen at the first hurdle by having no choice but to take Netero's warning. He would have thanked the elder then and there but there was no time for that, there was no time to collect his thoughts and think of anything but baring his teeth menacingly at the enemy and charging his fist with his counter attack. Those bastards weren't going to get away with making him look a fool in front of Netero!
Memento
@hichu:
The sun was shining brightly through the large glass window of Netero’s office, as he looked down on the city below. He didn’t like the view, never had if he was honest with himself. Sighing, he drifted back towards his desk and took another look at the short letter Beans had delivered to him earlier this morning. Ging’s handwriting was as hard to read as ever, but there wasn’t much to read anyways so it had not taken him long to decipher it. “I’m leaving the kid in your care, old man! We’re even after this!”
Frowning, Netero put it back onto his desk, before starting to pace up and down the room. He knew Gon. The lively boy had left a lasting impression on him during his hunter exam a while back and under normal circumstances he would certainly not have minded some company on his journey, but it wasn’t that easy this time and this particular place was… He shook his head and sighed again as he sat down on his large comfy chair. The young hunter would surely arrive soon and it was true that Netero ’s destination was the same place the boy was headed for as well, but it just didn’t sit right with him. To top it all he did indeed owe Ging a favor for his help a few years ago and it wasn’t like him to go back on his word either. He disliked the thought, but for better or worse he had to yield to Ging for this one. Bean’s rusty intercom voice brought him back to reality: “Chairman? Gon Freecss has arrived. Shall I send him inside?” Netero straightened himself before he answered: “Yes, please let him in.”
Gon’s wide eyes took in all the details of the Hunter’s association headquarters as soon as his feet had passed the threshold. Everything about the building screamed power from the outside - yet the inside was...oddly normal, it looked like any other office. Gon could feel how strong the people inside really were though.
The young boy was still on the hunt for his father, but another cryptic note had lead him here instead. Why was that? Gon could only wonder, though he had a feeling Ging was stalling for time and this mission was some sort of detour. Nevertheless, it had interested Gon, and he was sure that Ging wouldn't want to meet him if he couldn’t prove himself to be a worthy hunter, so perhaps this had something to do with that too?
Gon merrily greeted Beans, remembering him from the Hunter exam before following him up to Netero’s office, it would be good to see old man Netero too, maybe he could teach Gon even more, or maybe they could play more games. Gon smiled at the thought before finally making it to the office.
“Netero-san! Long time no see!” Gon greeted with enthusiasm as he strode over, clutching the straps of his backpack as he moved to and fro on the balls of his feet. “I got a letter from Ging telling me to come here, ah, but you probably know that already hm?” It wouldn’t be like Ging to miss out a single detail in his plans. “So is it true? Am I going to get to go on a mission with you?”
