Actually obsessed with this line change from the first time he recorded the song (around 1965-66) to the official version on Grievous Angel (1973). The idea of a mind who was “young” until she “grew” is ever present in his music and so very fascinating considering he never really got the change to grow old. Reminds me of “I started out younger, had most everything” from Hickory Wind as well but there are so many other examples.
“It's a hard way to find out that trouble is real
In a far away city, with a far away feel
But it makes me feel better each time it begins
Callin' me home, hickory wind”
