rereading happy sugar life (terrible idea btw please don't read this series unless you are capable of critical thinking. there are. so many trigger warnings for this series.) and i never realized that shoko's death had such an impact on satou??? i just remembered satou being obsessive over shio but i didn't realize that her killing shoko actually had lasting consequences on satou's psyche??? hello?????
tbf i think it's because satou only ever explicitly mentions how she "doesn't care about anyone else" and "everything is for the sake of mine and shio's happy sugar life" but it's kind of really obvious that shoko haunts her so fucking badly? like, there's the unnatural emphasis on the hand shoko clawed at when she was being killed, the way satou kind of? dissociated? after killing her, the way she immediately says they can't stay in the apartment even though she could've easily just gotten rid of the body and stayed in there anyway, her being very visibly affected when she glimpses at the face of shoko's corpse, satou completely going limp for a bit when shoko's corpse fell on top of her...
yeah, nothing about any of this makes it look like satou was unbothered by shoko's death. that doesn't absolve her of what she did, though.
