——————————————————————————— As Vi woke up, before she even opened her eyes, the first thing she did was roll over and reach for her girlfriend.
However when her hand is met with nothing but empty space, her eyes finally flutter open, a hollow feeling settling in her chest as she saw no one lying beside her.
Vi hated to admit her weakness and vulnerability’s after her time in still water.
She’d grown up knowing not to trust anyone and that safety came from keeping your walls up, and oftentimes never trusting people.
Of course, living with Caitlyn now made that easier, but it didn’t mean it was necessarily easy.
One aspect this was especially true in was intimacy.
Vi often preferred to be on top. To lead the way and have control. With Caitlyn however she let herself let go at times, albeit rarely. The only drawback to this Vi had come to find was just how clingy she’d grow afterwards.
Though she didn’t like to admit this fact, out of fear it made her seem to weak.
Most of the time, they were intimate at times when Vi made it easy to hide her clinginess, while still feeling satisfied.
On the couch during a movie, right before bed, or in the mornings… any more risky places- Vi always made sure she was in the lead.
However last night had been different.
It was one of nights where they’re both up at the same time in the middle of the night, and in the quiet of the night, back to front, they coax soft noises from the other until their satisfied and both fall back asleep curled together.
Usually, Vi was the one of them doing the coaxing. But what had made last night different, was the fact that Caitlyn had taken the lead.
Not that Vi minded, and besides, if she had Caitlyn would’ve stopped immediately. In fact it’d felt amazing
She couldn’t remember the last time she’d slept so well.
However waking up this morning, Vi wanted nothing more than to curl into Caitlyn’s arms and be cuddled.
The hollow feeling in her chest grew deeper. For once she felt unsure what to do with herself. She wanted to go find her girlfriend, but the pathetic, desperate part of her wanted to stay curled up in bed, and hope the feeling would resolve itself.
She lays there for a few moments more, now cuddled under the blankets on Caitlyn’s side of the bed, hoping that being enveloped in the scent of her will be enough to help her regain her composure.
Vi can’t help but think to herself how stupid this is. Caitlyn never got this way, and it make her look rather pathetic in her opinion… it’s not like she was a virgin.
She’d done this plenty of times, so why did she still feel so hollow every time she found herself alone afterwards?
Torn somewhere between crying, screaming, and getting up and pretending she’s perfectly fine, she’s suddenly surprised to hear the sound of the joining bathroom door opening and a still sleepy looking Caitlyn walk about.
While Vi knows she should feel relieved, a part of her just feels really embarrassed. This was stupid. She knew it was.
But desperation is a strong force and Vi hardly recognizes her voice when she quietly calls out “Cait?”
The woman stops, seemingly in her way to the closet and turns around, her softening when she seems to realize Vi is awake.
“Good morning darling” she says before her face changes slightly, as if she’s studying Vi “are you alright?”
Despite her hesitance to break down and beg Caitlyn to come hold her like a child she just nods, hiding her expression with a yawn.
But her girlfriend knows her too well, and when Vi’s face resettles, she already sees her walking back towards the bed.
Vi is tempted to protest, although she really doesn’t want to. She expects to be interrogated by the taller woman, however she’s suddenly surprised and pleased when she just lifts up the blanket and slides back into bed with her.
As much as she wants to maintain her composure, she’s helpless in the face of her lover and within seconds Vi is curled into Caitlyn side, head pillowed on her chest.
Caitlyn doesn’t hesitate to welcome the gesture, opening her arms to cradle Vi close while stroking her hair.
“Are you alright?” She hears her girlfriend whisper, and Vi just nods against her chest.
“Just.. felt the weird walking up without you after last night” she confesses, forcing herself to be brave enough to confess her vulnerability to Caitlyn.
Shes expecting some sort of pity, or worse even laughter. After all, Caitlyn never gets like this.
But instead she just hears her hum softly, turning on her side to hold Vi closer, shocking her by saying
“I’m sorry darling” whilst pressing her soft lips to her forehead.
“It’s ok” Vi mutters, too content to care, wrapped up in her loves arms, safe and protected.
Caitlyn continues to stroke her hair softly, pulling the blankets tighter around them as she cuddles Vi for the rest of the morning.
Vi relaxes in the safety of her embrace, letting herself realize that she can be open and vulnerable with Caitlyn, and that she’s always be there to protect and take care of her.
And that’s when Vi finally realizes, she doesn’t have to fight for herself anymore.
