A surprising number of people falsely think their smartphones, smart speakers, and social media apps are spying on them. But the truth is almost as unsettling.
The article doesn't really go far enough. It mentions how Apple, Google, and Facebook have a ton of demographic data about us and knows about our social networks, so they can connect potential interests. But, it goes further: The have web beacons (tracking code inserted into web pages) all over the Web, so wherever you go online, they are getting fed what that is, which they connect to hidden profiles. They even have profiles for your friends who are not members of their services and think they are "off the grid."
