Shadow
I saw my shadow-
It smiled from.my window.
When I glanced in the mirror,
My face was stuck in horror.
I glanced at my shadow;
It's not on my window.
Looking back at the mirror,
There is no "I", only a smiling horror.
"Don't recognise me?
I am your darkest depth
Your hidden side
Deemed too ugly to show the world.
"I am your raging grave,
Your sobbing weakness,
The immature child
And the broken teen.
"I was your other half
The unforgiving one
I matched cruelty to cruelty
And sweetly took my due reward.
"You hid me well
Forever, you wished"
"Nothing lasts forever," we chorused
And my shadow grinned as my eyes shed terrified tears.
(And the "me" I wanted to be)
