[ooc: when birds molt, the replacement feathers grow back as “pin feathers”. basically it’s an area where feathers take time to grow with direct access to the blood supply, and when they’re done, you can take the casing off of them. until they’re off it’s just itchy, annoying and in the early stages fuckin dangerous]
