“Viens là, ma petite, you are shivering.” Not that Delphine is much better off; she knows her hands are still freezing when they wrap around the tiny girl and haul her into her lap. For a moment, though, she is all too reminded of Revival. It had been no place for a sick child, least of all one brought to them near the brink of hypothermia. Delphine hadn’t been the one to treat Charlotte that night, too wrapped up in seeing Cosima again and keeping her lover alive. Again. She knows the girl is doing better ever since their cure had been approved for her, but... she still can’t help but worry.
Delphine tries not to let it show, though, staring into the soothing licks of fire before them to keep her mind from wandering too far back as she runs an absent hand - warm now, thanks to the Hendrixes’ fireplace that they’ve huddled in front of - along one of Charlotte’s braids. “Today was fun, wasn’t it?” she murmurs, linking her hand back with its twin around the child’s waist. “Did you enjoy seeing Kira, Gemma and Oscar again, chérie? They certainly seemed happy to see you.” She can still hear the other children puttering around the house - in the kitchen with Alison, maybe, likely putting together some sort of childhood Christmas treat - but it was Delphine who Charlotte had entreated to keep her company now, a motion that had warmed her heart more than any flame ever could.
