So my therapist, after a year of seeing her, told me I have borderline personality disorder. It’s fucking terrifying, because there aren’t meds for it, they only treat the symptoms and stop working after about a month. And it’s kinda nice having an explanation for why I never want to do anything and why I keep leaving jobs but now it’s also hard because I want to become less functional, it’s exhausting being high functioning with borderline. Does anybody have any coping mechanisms?

If everyone could stop getting their panties in a bunch about the "low functioning/high functioning" terms that would be wonderful. If they weren't ACTUAL medical terms in the DSM-IV I wouldn't be using them.

Hardly anyone understands how much I'm really internally struggling and how alone I feel beneath the cool and perfect high-functioning exterior I try so hard to present to the world.
