The stage is set for the general debate of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly. As the world continues to grapple with the socio-economic fallout from the pandemic and the ongoing impact of the war in Ukraine, the debate will be held fully in-person for the first time since 2019, with world leaders heading to NY to deliver their statements in the iconic Assembly Hall.

Nearly 50% of the global agricultural workforce is female, yet less than 1 in 5 landholders worldwide are women. Governments and partners must urgently address the barriers to women’s land rights.

The high-level event will focus on policies and actions needed to advance women's land rights and promote stronger female leadership and decision-making power in sustainable land management.
The event will be opened by Mr. Csaba Kőrösi, President of the 78th General Assembly, and will include participation by leaders representing governments, international organizations, civil society, Indigenous Peoples, women and youth.
It will include interactive dialogues and statements from the floor moderated by UNCCD Executive Secretary Mr. Ibrahim Thiaw and also feature musical performances by UNCCD Goodwill Ambassadors Mr. Baaba Maal, Ms. Inna Modja and Mr. Ricky Kej.
2023 International Day of Forests high-level event.
Join the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations at a high-level event to celebrate the International Day of Forests 2023. The day will highlight three important roles that forests play in ensuring environmental health and the many ways they contribute to healthy societies.
A new annual FAO Tree Cities of the World Award for cities that provide a substantial contribution to the theme of the International Day of Forests will also be launched.
