I miss being on speech man

like the random people yelling about rape trauma at walls

hearing someone shouting at a group of unassuming students and white judges about a genocide (Rwandan, the holocaust, etc.)

I once saw a piece about a woman watching her son die after months of being hooked up to machines

its truly a unique experience and I miss it but I don't (.....is this nostalgia)

I wish competitive Speech/Forensics wasn’t such a strangely Minnesotan thing because it was probably my top extracurricular in high school and I have a lot of opinions on which Yellowjacket would compete in each category.

Your life’s course will not be determined by doing the things that you are certain you can do. Those are the easy things. It will be determined by whether you try the things that are hard. The classes that seem impossible on the first day, but you study hard enough to pass. The jobs you want, realize you are not qualified for, and then work like crazy to get the necessary skills. The moments when you feel alone, ask for help, and create a bond with someone because working together helps them as well as you. The times when you see things nobody else sees, and fear speaking out but you speak out anyway… and convince everyone else. Those are the moments where you can have real impact.

Saw a kid on campus today wearing a shirt that said, "NFL...no, the other one." I asked it was a National Forensics League shirt and it was. We then proceeded to have a lovely conversation about high school speech and how his ultimate dream was to do Homestuck as an 8 minute interp piece. I like this kid.

(Full disclosure: I have not read Homestuck but at least I knew what it was and who the characters were, which is more than can be said for most of our campus!)
