sensory memories are the strangest

my coffee tastes like cigarillos and twelfth grade. there's a burning couch in the backyard of a house somewhere. people are kissing for the first time on a slanted roof.  i'm downing cinnamon-topped shots and singing with a girl I like but barely know.  my ankle's bleeding onto the grass.  and then the sun comes up and we're all getting sober in the kitchen. someone offers to drive everyone home. I think I pulled my strappy sandles on with one finger and gave high fives with all the others.  cigarillos and twelfth grade.
