Is University of California Berkeley in Trouble?
Despite UCB agreeing to freeze their tuition through the 2018 academic year in return for a four percent increase in state money annually for four years, they are still coming up short. Their solutions are to increase student enrollment (make up for the tuition freeze), increase class sizes, decrease professor participation in the undergraduate classes, and offer the ultimate "cure" -- more online class offerings. Oops! Is this the way of the future for state systems? I sincerely hope not.
