This is a conversation that is coming up a huge amount for me at the moment with students and meditation teachers we have graduated so it seems like the timing is right! The entire Letter won’t all fit in here so there’s a link to the Journal in our profile where you can see the whole article.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ My friend @mattvines and I were discussing last weekend what really goes into what looks like a successful life or business. We both travel an immense amount for work, and from the Instagram view, life and work can look idyllic. We both love what we do, so there’s no complaints from us, but we notice a constant stream of only one view being projected onto our lives. To be clear I do not only sit around drinking tea and meditating! #Repost @thebroadplace ・・・ When did we lost the art of saying, ‘you know what, I don’t know’ or ‘wouldn’t have a clue’. When did everyone get so over-educated, and terrified of not being educated? It’s gotten to the point where people would prefer to say anything, even if untrue than admit they don’t know what they’re talking about. Take a political topic, a global environmental issue, a workplace problem, amongst a gazillion hot topics, and people will sweat and squirm and outright lie before being honest. I committed to saying ‘I don’t know’ as much as needed a while back. It’s kind of scary in situations you don’t want to seem like an idiot in. But I realized fudging ended up making me seem like a bigger fool, so I let that go. And it’s confronting as people can get really upset, exclaiming ‘how can you NOT know about X??!!’. Our answer back can be, because we choose to know about other stuff, or it can be that we honestly can’t be across everything. And we must embrace the uncomfortable over the untruthful. We must acknowledge with honesty, and address things with sweet truth. For one, how will the universe ever take everything we say and ask for seriously otherwise? Sent with love, Jac x

#Repost @thebroadplace ・・・ Ensuring we read more things of value and inspiration and scroll less, is something I continue to impress upon students. A portion of today’s letter.. We all seem to know this, that being present reaps the greatest rewards as a human,but very little do we embody and practice it. There’s just so much snatching at our attention in the modern world, and we have wired ourselves these days to be scattered and fractured. The other day I saw a girl in a ‘Be Here Now’ Ram Dass tribute tee, scrolling through her phone, whilst flicking through a magazine, with headphones on talking to a friend on said phone, waiting for a coffee. We’ve all been there. The Shallows author Nicholas Carr says, “What the Net seems to be doing is chipping away my capacity for concentration and contemplation. Whether I’m online or not, my mind now expects to take in information the way the Net distributes it: in a swiftly moving stream of particles. Once I was a scuba diver in the sea of words. Now I zip along the surface like a guy on a Jet Ski.” I remember years back realising that my capacity to read at length had diminished. At work, my attention span was chaotic and at home, I was doing a hundred things atonce, all the time, because my mind was like a kite caught in constant gusts.. I was skim reading anything and everything and mostly dipping in and out of social media than actually engaging in beautiful, inspiring books. So I steadily went about rebuilding that part of my brain that could be present to one thing. It took some serious attention, was frustrating and yet one of the most rewarding things I have applied myself to. I started with 15 minutes a day, reading something inspiring, no interruptions. Then as our Vedic meditation practice trains us to gently come back to the mantra, no judgement, I transferred this philosophy into gently coming back to the present moment in the day, no judgement. Repost from @thebroadplace - L E T T E R - Clean, Simple, Distilled Thinking⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I used to have a terrible aversion to saying no to people. I had, (and still do) a big fear of disappointing others, and this used to drive me to say yes to things I knew deep down should have been a no. And this created complexity. Too many things on my plate, too much muddying of waters that should have flowed fresh, too many thoughts, too many options. I learnt the long way to learn to say no. That ultimately saying yes when you shouldn’t results in - guess what! - disappointing people.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Simplicity is when we get really honest and come clean with ourselves on what is working for us and what is not. Arran and I are obsessed with creating simplicity in areas of our lives. If something proves to not be working, we literally cull it. We get out a virtual axe and take apart areas of our life frequently. Carving up businesses, opportunities, how we live and how we exist. I rarely care how much time has gone into it, how much money invested, or how much I ‘love it’. If it’s not aligned with where we are at, and it’s become very un-simple, it’s got to go.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ How we do this is we break down every area that is creating unease or discomfort for us. We look at the why’s, and we look at the direction we are headed, the external influences and most importantly we look into our hearts. EVERY single time we have made decisions not based on our hearts, things get very complicated. We are always cleansing our thinking as it forms so much of our reality asking is it true, is it us? Can we rinse it, does it need soaking in something else?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You can work with simplicity on any level. You can ask your heart if it’s right. You can cleanse your thinking. If you do all three simultaneously you’ll really experience more flow in your life and far more abundance!

#Repost @thebroadplace ・・・ There is so much programming involved, in how we think we should be living. Paradigms created by so many people that influenced as we grew up, or insisted we be a particular way. So many barricades and ‘socially unacceptable’ things that we just accepted as it was all we knew. Then we grow up, and we get to create a whole new way of living. If we choose. No one really sits us down do they, holds us by the shoulders and says, ‘You can be whoever you want. You can throw away all you have created and start again, at any moment. You can flow with consciousness and creativity and love to the degree that you allow yourself. You don’t need to be bound anymore, you are free’. That’s the sit down we need to have with ourselves. We need to ask, seriously, of our souls, how are we going to spend the rest of this lifetime? Are we going to see it as a gift, or begrudge it. Are we going to strengthen, or struggle? Are we going to open ourselves up to life, or close down to it. Sent with love, Jac x

#Repost @thebroadplace ・・・ Today’s letter; subscribe online to receive to your inbox. Recently I watched Oprah Winfrey being interviewed after her Cecil B. DeMille award at the Golden Globes. She said, "The greatest lesson I've learned throughout my career came from Maya Angelou, actually, when I was first meeting her. After I've known her for a while, she said, 'Baby, you need to know that when people show you who they are, you believe them the first time, and your problem is it takes you 29 times to see the same lesson coming in a different skirt or wearing a different pair of pants.' So I think that has been one of my greatest wisdom teachings, is to asses from people's behavior, their actions—not just towards me, but towards other people—who they are and how they behave, because if people talk about other people, they'll talk about you. So I think in business and personal relationships, that's been my greatest lesson. Also staying grounded, has been really great for me." I was training in the dojo the other day and my karate Sensei was getting frustrated with all of us, as we were continually making obvious mistakes. He sat us down at the end of the class and explained that mistakes were needed. But the first time, we hear something, most of us ignore it. Then the second time, we continue to ignore, then after the third time, we get a shock when something ‘bad’ happens e.g. we hurt ourselves or someone was upset with us. He asked, what would your life look like if you stopped ignoring all the messages, hints and flat out obvious signs. What if we accepted our humanity and welcomed the mistakes and the learnings, but not the same ones over and over and over again. I took the message, and am exploring it deeply.
