Apple this year is starting to produce the iPhone in the state of Karnataka in southern India, said the government of this country.
The Government has welcomed the proposal of the tech giant to begin manufacturing operations in India. Apple is trying to take advantage of the strong growth of the Indian middle class because it sells in China slows.
The US giant has not confirmed such a step, but Apple chief executive Tim Cook said the company intends to significantly invest in India, where economic ascent provides ample opportunity for growth.
Apple has a 2 percent market share of mobile phones in India, and is located behind rival Samsung, which has 23 percent.
“We have an agreement with Apple and expect to start production in Karnataka by the end of April,” said Minister of Information Technology and Biotechnology India Priyank M. Kharga.
He said that the new plant is likely to be assembled iPhone for the domestic market. Experts say that the local production companies to cut costs and offer lower prices.
