Autumn is here and I sure am excited. By far my favorite place to experience autumn is in Hope Valley in Alpine County. Along Highway 89 is this mellow creek right outside the small town of Markleeville. Sometimes you can find fisherman lined along this patch of water. It always brings me joy in these moments of walking along this patch of water. There aren’t many aspen trees in this area, but there is still plenty of color. And now I count down the days until I get to visit again.

Northern Arizona. Between Flagstaff and Page there’s the town of Tuba City, which abuts the Navajo and Hopi nations. Poverty (and its various effects) remain a perennial problem out here. It’s still a beautiful place.

In 2007 I quit my job and moved into a minivan pointed west. Here’s a little love song for the 8 years we had that van, much of it spent driving on Hwy 89 and posting photos to Tumblr!
