Ah, the Helsinki area, I guess that makes sense. I just moved from Savo next to Lahti so I last got my stuff ordered at a smaller station. I’m having my gender marker changed so I guess I should prepare for a wait, too D:

Haha, I've also moved from Savo to Lahti when I was 20 :D I lived in Lahti almost 4 years and loved that city so much!

Where in Finland can you not just walk in and wait in line (if there’s a line) to fill the application? Or has it changed somehow in the past couple of years?

Well, you could just walk in to Pasila station, but the wait can be anything from 30 minutes to 3 hours - IF you even get an appointment simply by waiting. Sadly all the passports and such are handled in main police station only and as the government has cut down the resources of police forces, this is the result. Long waits. VERY long waits. With or without reserved appointment.
