When you think about it, Ai and Hikaru were each other’s manic pixie dream girl/boy.

Well my last post saying what was said at the end didn't last long lmao (probably had some fomo or something)

That aside one thing I hope the anime does (but I'm not gonna have them too high because I doubt that's gonna happen) is show us what Ai and Hikaru's relationship was really like, because remember the manga revealed that what was done for the movie was literally entirely made up and based off assumptions because nobody knew what the relationship was actually like before the breakup. Can't exactly ask Ai because she's dead and can't even ask Hikaru either because of the whole Boy A thing

While we're at it show us what Hikaru's actual home life is like. There was that scene of him seemingly sitting outside a house but for all we know that could have been yet another thing made for the movie because again can't exactly ask Hikaru about his life story and all that. Nonetheless if we were to take what was said to us to account his parents either gotta be on the same level as the parents from Takopi's Original Sin or his parents were one of those parents who wanted to be famous through their child and didn't care about whatever the hell is done to said child in order to keep that spotlight, or even if we want to go further they're like Kotoko Utsugi from Danganronpa Ultra Despair Girls' parents. I mean we learned more about Ai's home life once we finally met her mom so it wouldn't be too bad if we delved with that with Hikaru

But then I remember how so far every iteration of this damn story said fuck Hikaru he's super evil bad guy who would definitely harm his daughter if Ai was still alive because Ai is stupid for ever being in love with this guy chapters later after giving us a reason to sympathize/empathize with him just a little bit. In the end they literally made him yet another character within the "character who was SA'd as a child/was abused as a child/has some kind of disability (not like Hikaru was disabled but point still stands) is obviously super evil irredeemable bad guy" troupe solely to try and make Ryosuke not look like the villain here, hell you could say this basically happened to Niino too because now we're basically saying she was the way she was too because this random ass blonde guy wouldn't stop talking about Ai even without name dropping her

Summary

What if Hikaru never sent Ryousuke to Ai's address after the fateful phone call?

After a meeting at a café following the call, Ai and Hikaru agree to co-parent their children, hoping to give them the chance at a complete family they never had. Ai is eager for the twins to bond with their father, giving him the opportunity to experience the genuine love they had given her and letting the twins grow up never doubting the love they receive from either parent.

As the four begin to grow closer as a family, Ai struggles to come to terms with her feelings and what it truly means to love someone. Watching the family she had longed for take shape before her, she considers giving their relationship another chance. The problem is… why does he seem so distant? That was something she couldn’t understand.

Meanwhile, faced with the reality of being a father to twins and his complicated relationship with Ai, Hikaru struggles to accept that he could be genuinely loved by someone, the weight of his sins and the lingering words of his abuser haunting him, making him question whether he deserves such happiness, especially when he can't stop hiding his true feelings behind lies.

This is mostly self indulgent, and very slow burn as I do want to include character development for everyone and such so they can get back together in a way the relationship can be healthy and such.

My biggest “what if” will always be: What if Hikaru had actually gone to Ai’s apartment to see her and the twins instead of sending Ryoske? Obviously, I don’t think all his mental issues would have been resolved just by seeing Ai—I’m very clear on that. But maybe seeing her and his children would have made him realize that he was about to send a crazy fan their way and that it could have ended very badly. That would have led him to seek help and, in that way, become someone with whom Ai and the twins could build a family.

Okay, I'm sad now, so I'll just end my post here, excuse me 🤧

I only have one request for the studio: that they give us an ACTUAL HIKAI KISS. Preferably by cutting out the second kiss between Aqua and Ruby in the process. That’s literally all I want.
