Why is Disney so allergic to giving their characters kids?
I've asked this before. Pointing out how HTTYD has like 3 movies, and 3-4 series and a full family.
But today I was watching Hotel Transylvania, and that's another one with 4 movies and a series now, and a full family.
Both franchise's they kept focus on the couple but let them grow, Hiccup and Astrid/Johnny and Mavis. Both couples had kids.
Disney gave Ariel a daughter.
But they usually tend to avoid it. Why? It's like a crime against the fandom to not show us how Eugene and Rapunzel's children would look.
Like I can see few issues, giving them children would age the characters -- except. Johnny in HT is 21 in the beginning and 33 by the 4th yet looks no older. So this isn't really that big of a holdback. You could still age Rapunzel and Eugene and keep them pretty much the same.
As for what challenge you would give to having children -- how about the giant elephant in the room that the series skipped over? Classism. A Princess married the most wanted thief in the 7 Kingdoms. The guy that said no one in the room liked him.
Even the Disney Princess Magazine's had side stories "Once a Thief," where the guards and towns people didn't trust him.
Yet the series he's suddenly liked and accepted by most of Corona.
For their kids, that could be the focus. Corona or visiting dignitaries not wanting to accept that the children of a thief/commoner are now the heirs to the throne. Like HT did with Dennis and Drac.
Or some other plot. There's so many things they could do.
Why are all these other franchise's allowed to grow as families but Disney couples stuck in stasis?
