Suomussalmi - The Silent People

Suomussalmi is between Kajaani and Hossa. It was very interesting moment when I saw them. We were driving like almost whole day under the sun in empty roads but suddenly thousand of figures appeared. I was very surprised. It is an art work of Reijo Kela. 

Hiljainen Kanssa - Silent People

“The peat-heads have their clothing attended to twice a year; their heads come straight from the field, their clothes from organised collections. The Silent People are made and clothed by the Suomussalmi Youth Workshop, which also takes care of their maintenance. People often ask what precisely is the idea behind the Silent People. A state of psychological withdrawal? The mute Kainuu soul? A forgotten people? Reijo Kela refuses to provide any answer. Viewers are free to come to their own conclusions. It may, however, be of interest to learn that if the Silent People were to be completely undressed there would remain some one thousand wooden crosses standing in the field.“

I think it is touching. Thousands of figures staying there like forgotten. It is very impressive way to tell feelings. I am very happy to see this art work there.

man I feel like I haven’t drawn baby hiljainen in forever.

things are a little complicated when snufkin first returns with some lost baby in the spring. the original plan was to pass them off to too-ticky, but she isn’t around yet.

so now there’s this foundling hanging around moominhouse, that both he and moomintroll are... steadily growing more attatched to. likewise, them finding comfort in snufkin means he has to stick around most nights to get them to sleep. it’s on one of these nights that the idea starts to trickle in of keeping this a more permanent thing.

so with my ocs, hiljainen was their parents’ only kid for about twelve years, which is a long time to get used to being the centre of their universe.

then they go and drop another and suddenly it’s not just you anymore. and babies are... exhausting. but sometimes when it’s pretty late, and none of them can sleep because of it, they still get to spend some time together like the old days. :)
