It wouldn’t surprise us if we were in Nepal this time next year
We ploughed through the blog, video editing and the start of the job hunt. We had only applied to 5 jobs when we got our first phone call. It was about a job near Gympie and Rainbow beach, working in a pub with accommodation provided. It sounded perfect and the pay was similar to our last job. Considering it had taken a solid week to find our first job and a few days to find the second, we were amazed to have found our third one within a few hours.
That evening we felt like we should do something touristy in the area so we went to Kangaroo Point. A lovely grassy park on the top of the hill, filled with those who had made new years’ resolutions to loose a few pounds. There was a variety of fitness classes and different exercises going on all around us. One of more memorable moments involved some guy (who was a bit too into Star Wars) waving a sword about. The views across the river and into the city were great, especially at the time of day we were there. We even saw this cool lizard on the other side of the railings above the cliff tops basking in the late evening sun.
On the way back we happened to drive past a restaurant we had heard about in Lonely Planet called the Himalayan Café. It immediately stood out from the rest of the food establishments down the road. With its outside space set amongst a sea of prayer flags and colourful cushions. A mixture of Tibetan and Nepalese food was on the menu and went down a treat. Ben had a traditional chicken curry and Jo went for a pesto chicken dish. The one ‘waiter’ was basically running the restaurant. Serving about 100 people squeezed into the tiny restaurant, and he was doing a great job. It really made us consider going to Nepal if everyone was as friendly as he was and we got to eat that food everyday!
