If you like denim and Japanese reproductions of Anerican vintage clothing, Hinoya is a must on a trip to Tokyo. Apart from the house brand Burgus, which is great, the store carries most of the big names in denim like Iron Heart, Sugar Cane, Pure Blue Japan and Momotaro.
The place is near the railway tracks by Ueno Station and is pretty easy to find.
The reason I was there was to check out their selection of stuff from Buzz Rickson’s which is very well made and reasonably priced in Japan. I’d already had a couple of things in mind before I made the trip otherwise, it would have been too overwhelming.Trying to make a decision between khaki or beige chinos was enough of a dilemma!
I ended up getting a zipless hoodie, a pair of vintage chinos and a pair of sweatpants. The blue chambray shirt (really good value at around USD100) was out of stock.
The first photo shows part of one of the four Hinoya stores on the same street. They are all within five minutes walking distance of each other.
I checked out Americaya as well and a few other shops. Between them, they cover nearly all the known brands for denim and repro American clothing.
The guy in the faded burgundy jacket is Kenichi and he helped me out. Saito is the guy in the hat and I took a picture with him because I thought he looked cool.
In the pictures, I’m wearing my Hinoya sweatshirt that I bought in 2013 and have been wearing about five days a week for most weeks. It’s still going strong.
