"Hinterland creates unique work for people to use, enjoy and cherish. We are artists, woodworkers and craftspeople who build by hand using natural materials. Drawing on fifteen years’ experience, we believe in and stand behind our techniques, designs and finished products.

To us, materials are at the heart of what we make. They provide the initial inspiration for the design, and also provide the user with an innate and ongoing connection to the natural world. We care about where we source, prizing salvaged, found and local materials, along with recycled and eco products. And we care about how we treat those materials through the building process.

SCATTER/GATHER PENDANT LIGHT

"This pendant gets its name from its materials: wooden branches scattered far and wide along the rugged Pacific shoreline, that are gathered up. Hand-constructed using pegged and glued through-tenons, no fasteners detract from the abstract and natural beauty of each unique fixture."

MATERIALS | Found ocean-washed branches, black or white cloth-covered twisted electrical wire, medium-base porcelain lamp socket

LITTLE GEM

"A side table and sculpture for indoors or out, it's made from cast-off cedar logs given second life as a crystalline form. It's hand-shaped and faceted based on the different characteristics of each log, and variations in wood grain, top surface and finish further ensure that no two are alike. Left to weather outdoors, this piece will acquire a natural silver finish."

NURSELOG

"These dual-purpose side tables bring the outdoors to the indoors. Mimicking rain forest stumps that grow mosses and ferns from their tops, a round insert allows a small arrangement of plants to add a living element to a useful surface. No two are alike."

TREETOP DINING TABLE

"Inspired by the sentinels of the forest, these salvaged and dried hardwood logs from coastal B.C. create unique, tree-like table legs that only reveal their modernist leanings at the chamfered intersection with the table's top surface. This knockdown table flatpacks, and is easily assembled."
