Here are my three favorite myths that took place in Sparta because I need something to do to distract me from IRL stuff that I'm supposed to do. So, yeah!

1/ Hyacinthus is resurrected, yay!

I know this myth is getting more attention nowadays but I can't NOT put this one here. Hyacinthus' resurrection was confirmed not only in mythology but also by scholar studies.

2/ Hippocoon beefing with Heracles

Hippocoon of Sparta is a grand-nephew of Hyacinthus and brother to Tyndareus and Icarius. With his sons, he exiled his brothers to secure the Spartan throne for himself.

Then Hippocoon and sons fucked around and found out. Not only they fought for an enemy of Heracles (Neleus), but they also killed the hero's friend (Oeonus) after the young man accidentally killed her dog in self-defense. As revenge, Heracles rallied allies and stormed Sparta.

The battle was heavy in casualties. Heracles' ally, Cepheus, brought his twenty sons to war, but only three survived. Heracles also lost his half-brother Iphicles. Eventually, Heracles killed Hippocoon and ten of his sons, then restored Tyndareus to the Spartan throne.

3/ Icarius has Empty Nest Syndrome

Icarius of Sparta is Penelope's father and also the biggest girl-dad. When Penelope married Odysseus, Icarius tried to convince his daughter to stay, even to the point of following them :))))

Eventually Odysseus let Penelope choose to stay with her father or leave with him, and Penelope veiled herself to display her wish to go with her husband. Icarius understood and finally let his daughter go. It's a funny but also heart-warming myth.
