idk i just wanted to draw something to do with the idea of one of paris's fatal wounds being in the eye and the imagery of birds picking at corpses on a battlefield and the fact that paris had a brother who turned into a diving bird and was also the one to first share the prophecy that paris would cause troy's downfall and this is what came out

AESACUS & HESPERIA

In Greek mythology, Aesacus is an illegitimate son of King Priam secretly born to a nymph. Aesacus avoids Ilium, preferring the countryside. One day he catches sight of the nymph Hesperia and falls in love with her. However, Hesperia is bitten by a venomous snake and she dies. Aesacus, unable to bear living any longer, leaps from a tall cliff into the sea but as he plunges he is changed into a diving bird by Tethys. X

like what the fuck do you mean he was a half brother of the guy that prophesied paris’ destruction of troy and turned into a seabird and what the fuck do you mean he could’ve been ascanius’ uncle and what the fuck do you mean that cyzicus from the argonautica was his uncle what

the fact that aesacus was taught by his maternal grandfather (aka the one he shared with nisus) merops how to interpret dreams?? do you think he taught arisbe’s sons by hyrtacus too

and yeah i do imagine him to see priam’s children as older siblings and/or family friends despite arisbe and priam still being super awkward around each other
