Since someone ask on Karneval... i’ll fill Azii blog with famdom ask
You know how you always canon Akari to always called Hirato protozoan or amoeba, for his intellect even though Akari knows Hirato intelligence is more than what Akari called him. But what if people starts to questioned Hirato intelligence prowess, how mad will Akari be?
actually, i think canon akari calls hirato a "virus"? it's in one of the extras where sensei draws them all as chibis. it's very cute how mad he gets when he says it, too. like he knows it's not really true but he's annoyed, so he's going to say it anyway.
in my fics, i have akari call hirato a "protozoan/amoeba." i will say that the extra with akari calling hirato a virus came out after i started writing that nickname for hirato in my fics, so i was very pleased when that happened. i was like, "oh yay! i got something right of the characterization!"
akari will destroy someone if they dare to question hirato's intelligence. because that is his right as hirato's lover. (if you've noticed, in my fics, hirato calls akari an idiot too sometimes - because he is an idiot sometimes.)
in any case, hirato is exceptionally brilliant. akari knows this because akari's taught hirato and because he's known hirato for a very long time. moreover, hirato is a very high-ranking national security operative. there's no way he'd attain such a position at his age unless he were highly intelligent. additionally, akari is very arrogant and would never fall in love with someone whose intelligence he perceives to be lacking. they would bore him if they can't keep up. so insulting hirato's intelligence is an insult to akari, actually. and akari will claim it's you being stupid because you don't realize how much brilliance hirato's job demands. and we know how akari-chan takes insults from stupid people. you will get insulted back, and he will eviscerate you, and if you catch him on a bad day, he might throw a clipboard at you or something.
no one gets to call hirato a protozoan; that's akari's right. and only akari's right.
Still Here
@opusperfectum
Hirato woke abruptly, gasping for air as his heart pounded wildly in his chest. Panicked, he reached out next to him, relieved to find Akari was still there, sleeping softly at his side.
Mere moments ago he had watched helplessly as the doctor was viciously torn apart by varuga; slaughtered in the most horrific detail imaginable, his slick insides spilling out onto the ground with a sickening sound before he collapsed, the light leaving his ruby eyes forever.
The nightmare had been so vivid, so real, that the mere recollection of it left the Captain feeling feverish and nauseous.
Gently circling his arm around Akari’s waist, he pressed himself against his back, holding him in silence until his heart managed to stop trembling. Face buried in soft, pale hair, he breathed in deeply, taking in the comforting scent of his husband’s skin as he placed a chaste kiss against the nape of his neck.
“Hirato…,” Akari murmured in his sleep, stirring slightly.
Smiling upon hearing the sound of his dear doctor’s voice, the Captain imparted a reverent kiss behind his ear. “You are so very beautiful when you sleep.” He whispered, almost inaudibly, as his fingers lightly traced across the flat plane of Akari’s stomach.
“Mmmm…Hirato...,” Akari groaned, slowly cracking open a tired eye to look at the alarm clock on his bedside. “Why are you still awake at such a late hour?” He murmured, stifling a small yawn. “Please don’t tell me that Circus is calling you away on business at this time of night.”
“Nothing of the sort. I’m merely somewhat...restless at present.” Hirato replied, gently brushing his lips between the doctor’s graceful shoulder blades. “My apologies for waking you. Please go back to sleep. I promise that I’ll trouble you no further.”
Akari rolled over and eyed Hirato suspiciously. “I am no fool, Hirato. You haven’t been sleeping well as of late, and I can sense that your heart rate is elevated. It is quite clear that you’re hiding something from me. Now confess.”
“It’s nothing of import, dear Akari, I promise,” Hirato replied softly, as he traced the tips of his fingers across his lover’s cheek.
I just needed to prove to myself that you are still here...
Akari sat up in bed, casting a baleful eye in the Captain’s direction. “I know you, Hirato, and I will suffer no lies or secrets between us. If it has been deemed that your life is to be put in peril in yet another damnable suicide mission by the Executive Tower... ”
Hirato leaned in to capture Akari’s lips in a tender kiss. “I’ve received no such orders. I swear it. I just....needed this right now.” Placing his hands on the doctor’s chest, he gently coaxed him into laying back down.
Positioning himself over Akari’s prone form, Hirato slowly trailed warm, open-mouth kisses down the beautiful curve of his husband’s throat, his dark hair falling against his eyes as he cherished the subtle scent of his skin.
“Hirato.” Akari scoffed, subtly rolling his eyes. “If you woke me up at 3AM to try and seduce me…”
“No, that’s not it.” Hirato breathed as he continued to kiss a trail down the other man’s trim torso, ungloved hands running up and down his sides as he softly dragged his lips across the doctor’s flawless skin.
“Then, precisely what are you doing?” Akari asked as he looked down at the Captain who continued to slowly worship his lean body, kissing and caressing him as if he may never have the opportunity to touch him again.
Hirato smiled weakly, trying desperately to push the nightmarish images from his mind. “I’m simply offering up a humble prayer that you will continue to remain by my side, now and always.”
Hirato and Akari making pottery
well, as i explained in other posts, my version of akari has no artistic skill whatsoever. he's good at a lot of things - at most everything, in fact. but he's terribly unskilled at anything requiring artistry. his diagrams are routinely mocked by all his subordinates (and hirato, and tsukitachi, and tokitatsu, and everyone his subordinates email these diagrams to). it's always been like this; everyone knows this about him and most everyone is too afraid to make fun of him to his face.
but most everyone doesn't include hirato, who will absolutely book a date at some artisanal pottery-maker when the two finally take a vacation. he thinks they should take pottery lessons. he's seen the movie 'ghost'; it'll be sensual and romantic. does he think akari's going to learn how to make pottery? not at all. does he think it's going to be romantic? probably not. is it going to be funny as hell? yes. it's good for akari to be reminded that he's not good at everything, in hirato's opinion.
well, let's say they're in a place that makes traditional pottery with the potter's wheel and everything. since akari's security is always of paramount concern no matter where they are, their class is small: hirato, akari, and their teacher (who looks like a brown-haired tsukitachi and is obviously enamored by the fussy blond who sucks at pottery). it's a set up for shenanigans, i know, but i'm a fiction writer.
anyway, sensei explains the basics and makes clay for them because there's no way he trusts these two to make the clay. the cute blond would probably take too long and ask for precise measurements; the equally gorgeous brunet looks like he'd have too much fun mashing the clay. there's a restrained sort of violence in him, sensei thinks. sensei will regret not remembering these first impressions later.
in any case, sensei plops lumps of clay onto their potter's wheels and explains how to make the wheel rotate. the trick is coordination: the wheel has to go at a specific speed, but you have to move your hands over the clay to shape it too.
naturally, this presents no problems for hirato. once he gets the wheel going, he's able to start shaping his lump of clay into a stunning vase. he'll give it to tsuki-chan, he thinks. tsuki-chan's place could use a touch more elegance. he's actually having a good time. there's something soothing about working with his hands to make something as opposed to destroying things. he lets his mind drift, forgetting all about the war and focusing on making sure the sides of his vase are symmetrical and also on ensuring that the long neck is sufficiently formed so it doesn't collapse on itself. hirato even begins humming softly as he works (akari hears him and smiles to himself, not wanting to say anything because he might stop).
apart from being pleased that his ever-vigilant lover's been able to find a sweet distraction, akari isn't having a good time. he's got enough coordination to keep the wheel going, but as he tries to build up the bowl he's making, the clay collapses on itself. every single time. akari keeps trying, though, because he's not a quitter. but he's getting frustrated, the other two can tell. he keeps huffing as he tries to shape the clay, one hand smoothing the outside of the bowl and the other supporting from inside it. it looks like he's got it this time. he sighs a little, relieved (hirato would never let him live it down if the man makes a damn artisan vase and akari can't even manage a bowl).
the bowl collapses again, and akari blows his hair out of his face with an irritated "damn."
he's not a quitter, as i said. he gets his hands wet, preparing for another go. before he can, though, sensei cuts his clay off his wheel.
"you've overworked it," sensei says. "let's try again with some new clay." he drops a fresh lump onto akari's wheel.
akari nods, and then promptly turns every shade of red as sensei scoots behind him, legs on either side of him and hands coming over the blond's, guiding them towards the clay. he's very pleasant, but he has to sit really close, and his words ruffle through akari's hair when he says, "gently. like this."
you would think akari's a little blushy because this very attractive pottery teacher is getting very close. and you'd be like 20% right; he has no interest in other men at all, but he can recognize when someone's attractive. the other 80% is akari getting flustered because he knows hirato knows he's 20% attracted to sensei and that means hirato's going to start some shit.
(this is unfair in akari's opinion; if you asked him, he'd say hirato was about 30% attracted to sensei. they know each other very well, after all.)
sensei doesn't know either of them, though. so he doesn't recognize akari's blushing as 80% flustered fear. he thinks it's 100% attraction. so he digs his own grave by scooting closer and coming dangerously close to whispering in akari's ear. "you have to treat it like a lover," sensei says, dropping his voice to a purr.
meanwhile hirato's having a debate with himself: 1. he's just finished a lovely vase and he doesn't want to ruin it; 2. sensei really is very attractive and hirato wouldn't want to ruin his pretty face; 3. akari will probably call him a "caveman" again if he starts something; 4. that means this set up to make fun of akari is going to turn into a way of making fun of him. he sighs, lamenting that he's definitely not going to get to take his vase home.
i'll bring tsukitachi some fine whiskey or something, he reconciles mentally. he'll like that better anyway.
and then, in less time than it takes to blink, he's got sensei's arm twisted behind his back and is stooping low to whisper in his ear. "i'll ask you to step away from him," he says, voice dripping poison. "the nation of garmedia takes the security of our sss-ranked personnel very seriously. any threat to his person is a capital offense."
now, a few years ago, akari would probably be screeching at hirato to stop being such a boor. but he's learned his lesson. he just sighs and starts cleaning his hands off in the water bowl. he knows they're going to be leaving the pottery studio very soon. like within the next 2 minutes.
sensei is frozen in fear, because we all know, hirato looks positively murderous when he smiles. "i-i-i wasn't threatening him," he protests. "i just-"
"there's no point arguing," akari interrupts, now wiping his clean hands. "he's tasked as my security; he has the right to determine what counts as a threat and to act as he sees fit."
sensei backs up so fast he drops off the stool he was sitting on. good thing hirato let go of his arm just in time, otherwise he really would have broken it.
needless to say, they leave as soon as hirato gets the clay off his hands. to compensate for his inconvenience, akari leaves sensei enough money to cover ten private lessons.
they're several blocks away, looking for a restaurant, when hirato speaks. "you surprise me sometimes," he says. "i was expecting you to fly into a seismic rage for ruining our date." if you think he's saying this out of any feelings of guilt, you'd be wrong. hirato doesn't feel guilt, not for stuff like this. he's asking because he's truly curious.
akari sighs in so much resignation and decides on a french place. he pulls hirato in by the hand (he’s hungry!). “it wasn't a date; you just wanted to watch me make a fool of myself.”
hirato smiles a genuine smile. akari makes him fall in love all over again from time to time. it's very cute.
Can I say something, since I'm re-reading Aloft. I really like the part when Hirato mada a palm reading on Akari in chapter 17. I think its both hilarious and adorable at the same time considering he's the type that eould not believing in those type of things
Ah, thank you so much. <3
Honestly, that’s one of my favorite parts too. Hirato knows Akari’s about to get all pissy with him and that it could easily devolve into an argument, so he decides to get his adorable DA all flustered by flirting and being generally silly. Of course Akari doesn’t believe in any of that nonsense, and it’s not like Hirato really knows how to read someone’s palm. But the touch and the tenderness is enough to make Akari forget why he’s all mad. Some things never change.
Imagine Hirato in an AU when he and Akari were never together, But one day he wakes up in his bed and finds a very sexy and NAKED doctor sleeping in his bed. He wakes up in a world were they have been a couple and he is confused. Akari wakes up and thinks Hirato is messing with him as always but is upset because it is their anniversary and Hirato is playing around and not taking it serioulsy as he does not remember important details of their relationship.
So, it’s canon that Akari forgets important dates. He forgets his own birthday, for example. He might remember his anniversary, maybe. I could see him reminding himself with an alarm on his communication device or something, sure (and only because he feels guilty that his lover’s always the one who remembers these things). Still, I don’t really see him getting bent out of shape if they don’t do anything special. I mean, he tends to work through holidays. And often, Hirato’s away on a mission. So, for this couple, not doing anything on their anniversary isn’t enough to get them upset. They much prefer to spend quality time together, yes, but if it doesn’t happen, then they’ll just find another time to enjoy one another.
But forgetting important details of their relationship? This will cause Akari to worry.
If Hirato woke in an alternate dimension where he and Akari are lovers instead of colleagues who are constantly at each other’s throats, I think his first thought would be, “Surely, we did not drink that much last night?” I know everyone likes to imagine that Hirato and Akari drunkenly get together at one of Tsukitachi’s tea parties, but I don’t see their relationship starting that way. I’ve written a lot about that, so I’ll just summarize by saying that Hirato wouldn’t take advantage of Akari’s low tolerance like that. And Akari wouldn’t take advantage of a drunk Hirato, either. When they get together, it’s a deliberate thing - they confess their feelings openly, though I admit the captain probably had to inveigle his repressed blond into admitting his feelings. But apart from that, it’s a very intentional beginning.
So our Hirato would be charmed for a minute, because why else would Akari-san be in his bed naked and looking very much like they’d gone at it for hours last night. He looks down at himself. He’s also naked, bruised, and it’s clear that the body he’s inhabiting (which is very much his) spent quite a bit of time tied to the bedpost. He smirks and thinks to himself, “Akari-san is into bondage, hmm? Not surprising.” Then, he lets his eyes gaze over at his bedmate. As we all know, the doctor is sublimely beautiful when he’s sleeping. His long, long eyelashes flutter against his cheek, and Hirato thinks, “So adorable. He looks younger when he’s asleep. Sweeter, too. Like he doesn’t carry the world’s burdens.” Without thinking, he reaches out and smooths Akari’s hair back.
But then the sleepiness clears from his head and he comes to his senses. He and Akari-san are not lovers. And there’s no way either of them would do something so predatory as to take an intoxicated person to bed. Frankly, he would have put the other man to bed, tucked him in, and written another snarky note for him to find the next morning.
So something’s obviously not right. He checks the bedside alarm clock and starts when he realizes it’s the wrong month. Hirato’s pretty sharp, so things would fall into place for him after that. He’s never heard of incuna abilities being able to twist time, but they can twist space, so maybe it’s not impossible that he’s been sent through space-time into another dimension or another timeline? Unbelievably, he laughs to himself because the Akari-san in his universe is going to be so floored by this new bit of information.
….Assuming he gets to go back, that is. He glances at Akari again. Ah, assuming I even want to go back. After all, this universe seems much more pleasant.
Akari stirs and blinks. The sleepy smile he offers Hirato when he sees him steals all the captain’s breath and leaves him a little hot. His Akari-san has never smiled like that. If the other man is gorgeous when asleep, he’s that much more alluring when he smiles.
“Good morning, Akari-san,” the captain says out of habit.
Being a genius means it only takes as long as he wakes fully for Akari to figure out something’s up. “Akari-san?” he asks, eyes narrowing.
He doesn’t feel like dissembling, and frankly, there’s no reason to. If anything, his doctor should know exactly what’s going on since it could be of great importance to Research Tower. Anyway, tricking the man into acting like his lover would be cruel. So Hirato explains everything.
At first, the blond is convinced his bedmate is just fucking with him for kicks. He huffs and sits up, grumbling that it’s too early for pointless games, and can’t they wait until he’s had some coffee? Well, at least Hirato didn’t unplug the alarm clock, so maybe he should be thankful for miracles. He keeps grumbling as he makes his way into the bathroom. The brunet watches as Akari brushes his teeth and steps into the shower.
After a few minutes of staring hard at the water streaming down the other man’s back, Hirato finds his clothes too. He’s going to want to be dressed for the conversation about to ensue. He’s thinking of ways to broach the topic again, figuring out what it’ll take to truly convince Akari of his situation, but before he comes up with a suitable answer, the blond strides back into the room.
Akari’s whole affect shifts. He’s nothing like he was before. Instead, he’s cold and assessing. He towels his hair as he speaks. “When did you realize you’d arrived in a different dimension?”
Hirato flinches. He was expecting the man to remain unconvinced. “When I woke,” he says softly. “When did you realize I was being truthful?”
Akari blushes, just a bit, just the tips of his ears. It’s ridiculously cute, but he doesn’t change the cordial tone of voice. “We – I mean he – and I shower together in the mornings. When you didn’t–”
“–I see,” the captain interrupts. He looks at his companion again. Akari’s dressed. In fact, he got dressed before he came out of the bathroom. He’d closed the door as soon as he stepped out of a (very short) shower. He’s being officious and wary all of the sudden, that warm, sleepy smile nowhere in sight.
Hirato understands. “My apologies for witnessing you in such an intimate situation. I would never take advantage of you, Akari-san, not even in another dimension. Still, your wariness is warranted. I am not your Hirato, in the end.”
Akari nods. “No,” he says. “You’re not.” But he does soften a touch. “And I know you would never behave in a predatory manner. I’m not offended Hirato, it’s just…” he falters.
The captain can practically hear him thinking. He gets it. Yes, it’s cute to wake up next to a naked researcher. And it’s wonderful to see him smile like he means it, unlike all those smug grins he gets back in his universe. He even loves the smell of the blond’s sheets; they smell like the both of them, like they spend a lot of time in bed. But this blond, this life, doesn’t belong to him. Frankly, he wants his own Akari-san. He wants to figure out how they fell in love, wants the first kisses and initial confessions, and he definitely wants the first time they made love. “Let’s find a way to return him to you. I, too, would like my Akari-san back.”
The blond huffs, “You say that like it’s simple.”
Hirato smiles. “For the most brilliant scientific mind of the century, I imagine it cannot prove much of a challenge.” He adds in a serious voice, “I am at your disposal, doctor. No doubt this has to do with my ID. Let’s start there.”“As if I hadn’t already figured that out! Who do you think you’re talking to?” Akari exclaims. But he seems like he’s up for the challenge. Like he’s looking forward to it, even.
Hirato asks if he might avail himself of the shower so they can get started on their work. He’s eager to set things right and return to his own curmudgeonly researcher. If he likes sharing a morning with this Akari-san, imagine how much he’s going to love mornings (and nights) with his Akari-san. He resolves to claim the other man once he gets to where he’s supposed to be.
