In the end, Ricky Steamboat defeated Ric Flair by pinfall after referee Teddy Long made the count when referee Tommy Young was knocked out.
After the match, Flair and manager Hiro Matsuda argued with Young that the decision wasn't made by the official match referee but Young made the decision official and Steamboat won the NWA World Heavyweight Championship.
