“ I DON’T THINK I GIVE YOU ENOUGH.” Kate knew what it was like to be a woman in BUSINESS. She was the one who had been surrounded by O L D F A R T S since she could remember. She knew the SEXISM, the ARROGANCE and the ignorance that came with it. The fact even now, at seventeen, she was used to hearing comments about her appearance from her father’s ‘friends.’ that often made her feel VERY uncomfortable. Kate knew that whatever she decided to do, she would make every last creep PAY. Even as a YOUNG AVENGER, Kate often found herself having to deal with more bullshit than the rest. Her own teammate had once suggested he didn’t NEED SAVING BY A GIRL. With every arrow she shot on target, she would still be downplayed. Often seen as a ‘lady hawkeye.’ Why did she need to be identified as a female? Why couldn’t she just be HAWKEYE, like she and CLINT had agreed? She’d earned that name, EARNED IT. Yet, people still wanted to take it away.
People saw women as an easy target. Kate knew that. HELL, it was the reason, part of the reason, she wanted to become a HERO. Part of the reason she risked her life instead of focusing on her own teenage responsibilities, she did stuff others deemed inappropriate or RISKY. No one would feel like she had. No one was EVER going to be hurt like she was. ESPECIALLY, because some creep decided to.... she couldn’t remember it. She needed to speak, she might start to wonder, ask questions... she couldn’t have that. She attempted to lighten the mood, lighten her own mood. A laugh - slightly faked burst out, trying to break up the silence.
“----- trust me, you DESERVE it. I can barely manage my school work alongside hero duties. Clint once gave me a lecture on homework... CLINT BARTON.”
