Making the grip.

First, woden scales are cut and shaped and glued to the tang. Then flax thread is wrapped around the grip. Leather is soaked, cut and skived and then dyed with ferric acetate and then wrapped over the grip core, after a coat of hide glue. Then thread is wrapped over the wet leather to push it into the recesses between the first thread wraps around the core, and also to add texture to the leather surface. Then all is left to set.

And here's the result. You'll have to wait until daylight comes for pics of the finished sword, though.
