Warden Emmet was under the impression that the one helping with all the frenzies was 15-17 years old. Not 10.
Welp I have been rereading some of my posts, the swap aspect au in particular where Emmet ends up in Hisui and I have some thoughts, specifically in the differences between Ingo and Emmet's experiences both in Hisui and in their return.
One huge difference is that one, Emmet, is understood as alive, while the other, Ingo, is perceived as being dead. For Emmet this means he has more people looking out for him, both medically and concern about what he is getting up to and if it's dangerous. Where as Ingo doesn't get any of that, he comes and goes as he pleases and even when injured unless he expressly asks for help no one thinks much of injuries, why would they when a ghost is already dead.
Emmet however gets more scrutiny for his "odd" behaviors. Where as people just shrug Ingo's oddities as being just weird old ghost things.
Now for the return as that has some of the biggest differences.
Emmet returned to the present with Rei/Lucas and was believed that they were in Hisui from the start. With that came a certain understanding that Emmet just lost everyone he ever knew. Rei and Johanna gave him the time and space he needed to actually grieve and come to terms that everyone he knew was gone. It was by no means easy but he was surrounded by people that understood he had lost so much.
Ingo on the other hand, returned alone, not only that but he was found inside a Plasma facility. His tale of where he was isn't taken seriously because while possible it's a horribly wild claim. So his words are taken as the ramblings of someone who's gone through a mental break down at the hands of Team Plasma. He is not given any time or space to actually even attempt to grieve in full or come to terms with what happened. He tries to go alone to take some time to himself to think and grieve and is followed. The others don't want him being alone, it's well meaning but this results in a lot of arguments, frustration, and anger building up.
All in all while the situations were similar Ingo and Emmet had very different experiences both in and out of Hisui
You once showed what a frenzied Ingo looked like... what does a frenzied Emmet look like? 👀
—Rando Anon
It's a good thing he wouldn't be frenzied, the strongest battler in the land, and can be anywhere land or water? Everyone would be lucky that he cannot think clearly.
Another question. We know how Ingo and Akari/dawn acted when they went back to the present... What about Rei/Lucas and Emmett?
Ok so I think I've settled on how Emmet also winds up back in the present so I can confidently answer this!
Emmet and Rei had less of a difficult time. Not great by any means but it was easier and that's due to several key differences. A big one being,
They were both sent to the present at the same time and were able to help one another from the start. Emmet was pretty close to Rei's location when he was ambushed by Volo and was actively trying to administer first aid when fraction Arceus pulled Rei into the present. Emmet and Lady Sneasler were accidental tag-alongs.
Thinking Emmet is genuinely a man from the ancient past Johanna takes him in with the help of Lucas's insistence.
One big help for them is that they are believed almost from the start of where/when they were. The duo saying the same things combined with the few items/photos they have with them make proving what they say about being in Hisui much eaiser. It's a lot to fully understand that as wild as it is it's the truth.
Both of them being in one place makes it easier for Johanna to truly grasp that her son was tossed to the past. This goes for quirks and behaviors that are odd or have changed. Seeing both of them share some of these behaviors make it easier for her to understand, which in turn makes it easier on Lucas as he doesn't feel as much of an outsider or as out of step with everyone else.
Bad nights are something Lucas is able to go to Emmet for as well, struggling with sleep and nightmares after everything that happened in Hisui. With Emmet right there, someone who was there through it all helps him calm down. Emmet is also weirdly good about helping someone who has issues with sleep and nightmares Rei has found.
For Emmet especially being in present Sinnoh and being believed as being from the past thrown to the future with no way home. He is given the time and space needed to grieve in full. He's incredibly lost and not sure what he's supposed to do now, and everyone he's ever known is long dead. He tries to be helpful but he still struggles with how vastly the world around him changed.
It's less overwhelming to be introduced to present day by Lucas who knows what it was like in the past thus is better able to explain things, no one expects him to know what anything is.
What did hisui Emmet think of Akari? Or Rei if you want to switch it up. And how did Ingo react to Emmet’s disappearance and return?
I am absolutly switching it up to Rei.
Emmet thinks Rei is a pretty good kid. Way, way too young to be running around fighting frenzies and taking care of that whole mess despite the fact that despite everyone's best efforts only Rei seems to be able to actually quell the frenzies. He sees the excitable curious nature of Rei and how Jubilife especially is just killing that and takes it upon himself to make sure that nature isn't buried. This earns him the moniker of Uncle Emmet.
As for Ingo, he does not take the disappearance well at all. Going out joining every search party he can and when he's turned away searching on his own. Ingo is impulsive and can easily get into places that no one else can, including abandoned/restricted old Plasma Dynasty age facilities. After all there are sects of people who want to reinstate the recently toppled government rule, and the twins were known resistance fighters that in that revolution.
When he's found out by family that he's putting himself in potentially extremely dangerous situations while running himself to the bone, well, they're none too pleased and it's a fight to reel someone back how can and will just straight up vanish the second you look away.
As for the return, eeehh. Still figuring out how I would want that to work with this Hisui Swap timeline wise and so on. So I haven't gotten that far yet.
So in the swap au, how does Emmet get home? Do Rei or Johanna look him up and find out he was a Subway Boss in Unova? Does some Unovan tourist in Sinnoh spot him and post it online like, "Is this missing Subway Boss Emmet here in fucking Jubilife???" and Ingo sees it like "??????" Or is there some other way the twins reunite? Also, I always love how you draw Johanna. She is one of my niche faves that nobody else really draws much, so whenever I see her, my brain is like "!!!💜"
So Rei and Johanna don't look him up as they found very quickly any research into the Diamond and Pearl clans brings up nothing, so that avenu of search ends very quick.
Instead Johanna notices that Emmet is growing progressively more listless and lost. Doing odd jobs around town for people and getting into trouble by trying to tend to the surrounding area/pokemon in the way he did in Hisui that aren't as welcome as they once were.
Considering she is under the impression that Emmet is from the past. Finding him something to do present day job wise she's certain it would take years of education.
She gets reminded that while the clans Emmet and Lucas talk about don't exist anymore, there are still 10 clans in Sinnoh. She figures they are likely connected to the old clans in some way shape or form.
Figuring they may be able to give Emmet some direction that could be familiar to him she uses some of her old contacts from her coordinator days she manages to get a hold of some of the Clan leaders. It's a long shot but she informs them of the situation and asks if they would be willing to meet with them.
Do the clan leaders believe that there really is someone that came from 300 years ago? Absolutely not. But they are curious enough, especially about these Hisuian/Sinnoan pokemon, to humor a meeting. There just so happens to be one clan leader who knows exactly who Emmet is and that he's been missing for years.
Leader Imekanu contacts his family and the second Ingo finds out he ignores any reasonable thing like planning and immediately goes to Sinnoh. While Emmet doesn't exactly remember much about Ingo, he still recognizes him, and that is such a relief, after all he thought he had lost any and all family when brought to the present.
It's confusing, it takes some serious getting used to but he does get to go home.
What would of happened if Emmet fell into Hisui instead of Ingo?
Oohh such an interesting possibility and honestly I used this an an excuse to get a better feel for Emmet so strap in this is going to be a bit long!
To start with the circumstances involving Emmet falling to Hisui would be harrowing, forcibly separated from Eelektross by being stuck in inside an unstable space time distortion when it closed. Being ripped through time space does not mix well with a head wound when thrown into Hisui.
He'd have been incredibly lucky to have landed in the sea, despite the rock he landed on head first. His aspects letting him still be able to breath underwater. He'd luckily be found by Warden Iscan but the poor 14 year old had to call for help not sure how to handle this new situation.
Emmet would be taken in, treated and warmed up but very confused because here he is not knowing where he is, who is around him, what they're saying and worse of all he doesn't know anything about himself, not even his name. Though it wouldn't take too long for him to remember his name The automatic vocal tic of "I am Emmet" would be one heck of a relief.
With him holding a certain family resemblance to some of the pearl clan Warden Sabini would try to take him to the Pearl clan. They'd be unsure about him, not knowing where he came from, was he blessed by Sinnoh? Had to be and the lack of a pokemon partner would be concerning. He's quiet and even while confused is very friendly, they decide to let him stay until they can figure out where he came from. They do guess his age relatively correct figuring him to be somewhere in his 20s what with the sheer amount of energy he has.
Unfortunately they'd find very quickly that whatever he had been blessed with aspects of not only kept him alive in the ocean but also made him not do so well with the cold. As he starts to basically fall into a hibernation while there and they struggle to wake him up. And it's only going to get worse in the Alabaster Icelands what with winter approaching.
He winds up staying with Warden Sabini for the winter since the Coastlands don't get as cold as the Icelands. She took the opportunity to slowly start teaching him the language and with little else to do Emmet just tries to make himself helpful to this nice person who's letting him stay with her. Completely unaware that she's given him the name Kudari for lack of communication.
As he learns the language he finds the warden very admirable and comes to be very fond of her daughter Irida who thinks he is so very goofy and claims him as her weird uncle that's always covered in static. He is more than willing to entertain her games and questions
Emmet takes all winter and most of the spring to learn the language. Eventually they all find out that he's been telling them his name over and over again but by that point Emmet has no issues with anyone calling him Kudari, touched that they would give him a name when they thought he had none. He keeps introducing himself as Emmet to anyone new he meets but Kudari becomes something of a nickname some people will use for him.
He's quite in the best of times and often going completely mute for days which the clan thinks is odd but they accept it as just being how he is, same with his expressiveness while his tone remains very flat.
Eventually they all come to the conclusion that Emmet is some distant relative of Warden Kei's family that maybe had been trying to make his way back from some other land. The family would insist on having him around whenever they go visit Kei in the fieldlands which Emmet takes as an excuse to more or less wonder from place to place searching for answers to his lost memories, more or less becoming a wondering messenger. He plans extensively for each time he travels.
Happy to help wherever he is or taking messages to and fro. Some things help with his memories some don't but remembering flashes of memories makes him hopeful that they aren't gone for good.
He would make friends with a full team while working as a messenger.
Traveling around is absolutely how he meets Lady Sneasler who is completely taken with this weird thing that's not scared of her. He befriends her and whenever he passes by he's sure to bring her a treat. It would take almost 5 years before they would bond to one another which is a bitter sweet thing. It's sweet as they aren't so alone anymore but saddening as it reminds them of bonds lost, even if Emmet can't even remember what his partner looked like.
With the bond he'd be made Warden to Lady Sneasler. It puts an end to his region wide travels but working with a ride noble the need to be on the move is satisfied, still helping people and pokemon any chance he gets. Emmet is made warden just weeks before Jubilife village is formed.
The people of Jublife Village is a bit unsettled by Warden Emmet. They're freaked out by all the wardens but he's got a bit more. He isn't half sneasler, he's very expressive in his face and motions which is at extreme odds with his completely flat tone of voice. He talks very little and when he does it's often short and even rude at times. Getting straight to the point. He's always getting into people's business when he hears something he deems interesting too.
To make it worse he's an absolute battle maniac. From their perspective he's always looking to pick a fight and they would very much prefer Warden Emmet not show up to the village alone and when he does they try to point him to Zisu as fast as possible since she's willing to battle him. Emmet is just especially weird and an unknown. Unknown means dangerous.
For the most part the events of the frenzies and the red sky would be the same as Ingo in Hisui, though different injuries would happen. Loosing an eye instead of being stabbed in the chest as an example.
I can also see Akari claiming him uncle Emmet rather than a father figure. Does not make it any easier when she is "killed". Just takes him longer to find out what happened and who did it.
May we see more of aspects Rei 👀
Yes! Hisui Swap Rei is little! He's got oshawott aspects he's 10 years old and pretty excitable, a researcher at heart he was excited to be living a point in history that is not well documented. Then he realizes what living it means exactly.
Bonus:
Aspect au Rei, he is one of the first few people to get aspects after Akari, he was 15 when it happened and was excited to show Akari, he never got that chance as the day he got his aspects was the same day she was 'killed'.
