the nobility of princehood being self centered is such an interesting flaw integral to the show’s central thesis and it’s established right out of the gate, i love u revolutionary girl utena.

#utena completely forgets about wakaba in the opening episode #she operates so much of ep 2 with the conviction that the student council bullshit is just too confusing and annoying to deal w #like she was planning to LOSE to saionji intially even knowing that it would essentially return anthy to the hands of a guy whos repeatedly #hit her #'i want to be a noble prince who saves princesses' while maintaining quite a naive and self centered worldview (harmlessly at some points #and harmful at others)#also i LOVE how utena's princehood is established to be something she feels comfortable having in part because it ISNT expressly forbidden #she specifically cites the fact that theres no rule for girls to NOT wear boys uniforms as a reason she should be allowed to do so. and #doesnt think any more on the NATURE of such a nonsensical rule #and her princehood doesnt make her a pariah or outcast. it makes her something of an oddity and facination because it's so unexpected #but the INSTANT it takes on a shape that threatens the system akio tries to weaponise it against her #tunes talks utena #like it was ALWAYS a conditional princehood but u dont see how tenous it is until she truly tries to challenge something substantial
