Riven’s POV
What the hell is in that drink? I wonder to myself as Y/N pulls me towards where everyone is dancing. I notice that the song that’s playing is definitely not in English. Which isn’t a bad thing. I just have no clue what’s being said and that’s frustrating for me. I try to follow Y/N’s movements to a degree, but I am not that big of a dancer and I fear that I just look like a stiff pool noodle. As the song plays there are certain lyrics that stick out to me over the blasting speakers.
“What the hell is ‘noche de sexo?’” I ask out of confusion, shouting over the music to Y/N.
Y/N is holding his cup above his head as his hips sway to the beat in a fluid-like figure eight motion. I hate to admit it, but Y/N looks kind of hot with whatever the hell he's doing. Y/N laughs and looks up at me with a smug look, but what’s new with that expression. Oh god, I can not be thinking like this!
“Night of sex!” he shouts back over the loud music and a smile plastered on his face.
“What?” I question in disbelief.
Y/N chuckles with a smile, “Just shut up and dance, pretty boy!” he says, grazing a hand over my hip for a brief moment.
My breath gets caught in my throat and my chest feels weird - in a way that I have little to no clue how to explain. But, it doesn’t feel uncomfortable in the sense of having to cry or experience a panic attack or whatever they’re called. I kind of want Y/N to do that again. I shouldn’t think that though because Y/N is under the influence - should I? Can I?
I met Y/N last school year. It was our first year and I knew from the first meeting of him with the Winx that he was one of the strangest people that I have met. And somehow not just another prissy fairy that acts like a witch because they wanted to rebel against her parents. And by no means are we friends - let alone dance partners who dance to a song with lyrics like ‘night of sex.’ However, I’ll deny it if I say it out loud - Y/N looks obnoxiously attractive right now. I’m more interested in watching Y/N move his body to the song than I am with dancing to it myself. I think Y/N is catching onto this.
“Come on! Don’t just stand there!” he laughs, running a hand over his hair and down to his chest.
Holy shit. What the hell is happening right now? And why am I enjoying this? I question, slowly getting back into the rhythm. Regardless of how many times I invite Y/N and the Winx to parties - not that it’s a constant occurrence - it is scarce for all of them to show up to them. Especially Y/N. So, I’ll happily take advantage of the moment and indulge in it. I reach my hands out and rest them on either side of Y/N’s hips, guiding them in a figure eight motion like he's been moving in. I look at Y/N, more so silently asking for consent. I know Y/N - and the rest of the Winx - see me in a negative light and that’s completely fair, but I don’t want to cross and burn a line for being inconsiderate. As Y/N looks me in the eyes, he nods his head with a sly smile and rest an arm around my neck. Y/N takes a sip from his cup while looking me in the eyes.
“A sentirte bien. Tú no vez que estoy -” Y/N sings along with the song, but I have no clue what they’re singing, still.
All I can understand is the beat and the feeling of Y/N running his hand up the back of my neck while playing with the tufts of my hair. It's driving me nuts! And making my heart race. Or maybe it’s the heat? I think, still following Y/N’s movements, I'm enjoying it oddly enough. There’s this smile on Y/N’s face that isn’t like his usual smile. It could be the alcohol that’s flowing through his system or something else, but Y/N's smile looks more free and less forced. As if he's not weighed down by worries or responsibilities. I guess that’s what parties are for, I think to myself as I dance with Y/N. Jesus Riven! You're reading to much into this.
“See, you can dance!” Y/N says with a small smile, looking up and down at me.
I roll my eyes, “And you’re drunk,” I reply, coldly.
Y/N shakes his head in disagreement, “Nope! I’m just forcing myself not to give a fuck right now… Which I might regret in the next five seconds if I haven’t already,” he says, taking another sip from their cup.
I scoff at his words and without thinking, pull him closer to me. Shit, he smells good, I think to myself as I notice the scent of Y/N's perfume. Y/N sneaks his hand back up the nape of my neck and lets his fingers swirl strands of my hair once again. I know I should probably pull away from Y/N right now - I need to, but fuck does this feel so good. Without thinking, I tilt my head back in short-lived pleasure while Y/N's hands ridle my hair. If this wasn’t a public party, maybe I’d do something more drastic. What the hell am I thinking?! I shake my head out of Y/N's hand and lean down.
“Whatever makes you sleep at night,” I tease, whispering into Y/N’s ear, letting my nose brush against his ear as I pull my face away.
The song has changed to a completely different energy; it sounds like one of those songs you’d either fall asleep too or make out with someone too. Y/N and I stay standing in front of each other, just looking at one another. My hands stay rested on his hips, already used to the texture of the worn in denmin jeans his wearing. I guess Y/N caught onto this because he slides his hand off my neck, trailing down my arm for a brief moment. I remove my hands from Y/N’s hip shortly after, letting Y/N move freely.
“Um, thanks for the dance,” Y/N says, sounding almost shy as he turns his head away.
“You’re welcome,” I reply, rubbing my hand against the back of my neck.
There’s a tense and awkward silence between us. I want to say something, but Y/N beats me to it. The eyeshadow he's wearing, sparkles for a moment in the nightlights.
“I’m gonna go check in on my friends now,” he says, pointing behind towards the girls and walking off.
“Okay,” I say, knowing that Y/N probably didn’t hear me.
“So much for thrity seconds," I mutter under my breath.
"Holy shit dude!” I hear Helia say from behind me.
I jump in surprise, “God damn, Helia!” I shout.
“You’ve got a hard on for Y/N,” he confers, in his usual melodramatic tone.
“What the hell are you talking about?!" I bite back.
Helia chuckles, “You so do!” he says, with a proud expression.
I don’t even know what to say in response to Helia’s bullshit statement. So, I don’t. I scoff at Helia and walk away from him to some corner on the other side of the lake. I shove my hands into the pockets of my pants and kick a rock as I walk ahead, pushing past drunk Alfea fairies who beg for some interesting things from me.
“Saying I like Y/N. The fuck kind of koolaid is he drinking!” I mumble to myself as I stare at the lake.
“Probably the kind that can see the boner in your pants that you had for Y/N as you were watching him dance,” I hear Sky say.
“Fucking hell! What is it with you guys sneaking up behind me?” I shout, getting pissed off.
Y/N's POV
10:58 p.m.
Holy fucking shit! What the hell was I thinking?! What the hell just happened?! Since when do I dance with Riven of all people? Oh, my god. I danced with Riven - and I liked it. Oh, this is bad. This is bad. No, this can’t have just happened. This is so disgusting. Musa and Riven are like together - I mean they’re not together-together, but they’re still lowkey a thing. Oh my god, I’m a terrible friend. The rampage of thoughts blow through my mind as I speedwalk my way towards the Winx, away from Riven and the dance area.
“Hey Y/N! I saw you dancing out there! You looked like you were on fire, girl!” Aisha compliments, being expressive through hand gestures.
I chuckle awkwardly, “Thanks,” I reply, catching sight of Musa beside her.
Musa is quiet and holds a calm or solem-like expression on her face as she looks away from the party towards the dark woods. Should I ask if she’s okay? Should I even talk to her?
“Um, are you okay, Musa?” I ask, hesitantly.
Musa turns her head to look at me, she flashes a half smile, “I’m fine,” she replies.
I nod my head and don’t say anything more. After Musa’s response and the tone of which she spoke - I can tell that she’s upset about something. And that something may just be because of my own actions. I let her and Aisha be and walk off to check in on the other girls - leaving Musa alone for the night until we need to head back to Alfea. I’ll ask her about it tomorrow, maybe. I think as I walk over to Bloom, Techna, and Flora. All three of them are accompanied by their boyfriends beside them; it’s cute, but also kind of annoying sometimes. I’m so happy for my friends to be in relationships and such, but it gets frustrating when they’re literally attached to one another at the hip sometimes. Moving on, as I walk over, Bloom’s face lights up in happiness when she sees me - this alleviates my previous anxiety.
“Y/N has returned from the dance floor!” She says with a bright smile.
I smile back softly, “So it seems,” I reply, “shooing” Sky away with my hand and sit down beside Bloom.
Sky chuckles at my actions and stands around the group of us unphased by being dethroned.
“How you guys doin’?” I ask Bloom, along with the group.
Techna and Timmy blurt out some positive-like response as they are entranced by some techno-game program that Techna pulled out of her sleeve. Whatever it is that they are competitively playing - my money is on Techna. I look at Flora and Bloom, who both have Helia and Sky beside them like a bodyguard and or watch dog.
“We’ve been okay over here. How was it on the dance floor? We noticed you dancing with Riven,” Flora replies, giving a teasing look towards the end.
I groan and lean back a bit and lift my head up towards the night sky for a dramatic effect before answering.
“I promise it was nothing,” I state firmly, sitting upright.
“Uh-huh, sure it was,” Bloom teases.
“I’m serious! It was just a playful dance!” I respond, attempting to defend myself, though I’m not sure I’m doing a good job.
“Oh, that dance was definitely playful. If you know what I mean,” Helia chimes in.
“Helia!” Flora scolds, slapping his arm.
“He has a point there,” Sky defends.
“The two of you looked quite comfortable with one another. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Riven move like that. Not even when he and Musa were together,” Sky adds on, draping an arm around Bloom’s shoulders.
“Pff, you’re joking,” I respond in disbelief, chugging the remainder of my drink.
I hold my now empty plastic cup in my hands, rubbing my thumb against the raised rings that circle it. The feeling of Riven’s hands resting on my hips still linger in my brain. The way it felt so natural for his hands to be there… But it’s so wrong, is it not? I think to myself, as I run through the list of his red flags in my mind.
“I hope Musa isn’t mad at me,” I say, looking out at the people here.
“She seemed kind of gloomy when I saw her last,” I add, looking at Bloom.
Bloom flashes a small smile, “I’m sure she’s not mad at you - she’s probably just tired or something,” she says, sounding so confident in what she preached.
I nod my head, “I sure hope,” I say with a deep sigh.
The weather tonight is lovely; there’s a kind breeze that passes through every now and again, tosseling hair and bending the tree branches to dance. I look up towards the sky and admire the stars, they shine brighter out here than any ones I’ve seen back on earth. I wonder if these are the same stars I see at home? I think, looking back to the party where I can see Stella and Brandon dancing with one another so perfectly. Out of curiosity, I pull out my phone and check the time 11:15 p.m. the screen reads.
“Ooo! We should take a photo together! Especially one with all of us!” Bloom suggests, excitement jumping from her voice.
I chuckle at her and open the camera app on my phone, “Come on guys, squeeze in!” I say.
I raise my arm up with my phone horizontal in my hand, trying my best to find the perfect angle and level to get all of us in. In frame, Bloom is on my left and Flora is beside her with Sky and Helia squatting down behind the three of us. Before I lose the frame, I quickly click the volume button on my phone - capturing the moment.
“I think I got it,” I say with a laugh, checking the photo.
As the group looks at the photo, Flora stifles a laugh while Bloom heckles. In the photo, the three of us are posing cute-like with us all smiling while Helia and Sky are holding one of the most hilarious and stupid expressions.
“Oh my god!” Flora laughs.
“Oh! That is a keeper! Yup, mm-hmm! That’s going on the fridge,” I tease as I slide my phone into my pants pocket.
I look behind me at Sky and Helia who both shrug in sync and then high five each other with matching smiles.
“Boys,” Flora, Bloom, and I all say in unison, followed by laughter.
In the company of each other - for a short moment - everything felt alright. The weather was just right, there’s enough alcohol in my system for my brain to mask over a portion of my worries, the person on aux is playing songs that are perfect. Everything is perfect. And then in the distance, which really is only about 20-30 something feet, the crashing of drinks and a person being pushed into a table disrupts the vibes.
“The hell?” Sky mumbles under his breath.
The five of us all look out towards the commotion that’s happening in front of us. There’s two guys fighting and from the looks of it, the guy absolutely sucker punching the other guy is pissed. Where these two guys are, a crowd starts to surround them - more so to watch than to stop or help. Which, can’t really blame them nor be hypocritical of. As I watch, there’s something about one of the guys that seems familiar? Spikey hair. Large-ish biceps. Those stupid wrist bands. Before I can say anything in conclusion, I’m beaten to it.
“Is that Riven?” Helia questions, concern etched into his voice.
“Shit, that is,” Sky responds, taking off towards Riven with Helia following behind him.
Bloom, Flora, and I all look at one another, confused as to what the hell is happening. But, leave it to Riven to start a fight on a perfectly good night that’s supposed to be filled with fun.
“Let’s go get the others and leave, yeah?” Flora suggests.
“Shouldn’t we help the guys though?” Bloom questions.
I shake my head, “They got Riven. They’ll be okay,” I reassure her as I stand up.
The three of us round up the rest of the Winx and awkwardly wave to the guys who all seem to be scolding Riven or helping the poor Specialist that he picked a fight with. As we leave the party, I make the decision to use my magic to safely and quietly get us back into our dorm at Alfea. A simple sigil drawn in the air followed by some words and concentration does the trick and we’re tossed into our shared living space.
“Man, Y/N, I’m grateful for you and your abilities,” Aisha says, plopping onto the couch.
“Ditto,” Musa chimes in, sinking into the love sofa.
I chuckle and lean myself against the wall of the living room. Despite the multiple other times that I’ve done that same relocation spell - it still takes the wind out of me sometimes. There’s been times that I’ve lost my vision for a short while - like when you stand up too fast. Except, it lasted for a little under five minutes. That day was scary enough without that happening. But, it doesn’t always happen that way. Though, tonight, after relocating us back into the dorms, I feel a little more light headed than usual.
“Y/N, are you okay? You look like you’re going to pass out,” Techna speaks, walking over to me and putting a hand on my shoulder.
I understood what she said, for the most part. Although, her words sounded more warped and muffled a little bit. I guess this is another side effect of transporting people, I think to myself as I nod my head at Techna.
“I think I just need to get some water or something,” I say, not feeling so great.
I push myself upright off the wall and feel myself sway as I try to walk. Techna immediately reaches out and uses herself as my crutch. My arm was brought over Techna’s shoulder by her while her other arm snakes around my waist to help hold me up.
“How much did you drink tonight?” She asks.
“I’m not drunk,” I say sternly.
“I just overdid it with that relocator spell,” I admit, feeling guilty.
“Why don’t you bring Y/N to bed, Techna? I’ll grab some Gatorade and pain medication for them,” Flora offers, already walking to the kitchen area.
“I can walk. Really I’m fine,” I bicker as Techna walks with me.
“Too bad,” She says, as we walk into my room.
I shake my head, “You guys are too good for me,” I mumble as Techna sits me down on my bed.
She chuckles, “You’re too good for us, Y/N,” she responds.
