unique sixth sense huh.
thinking about dustin’s snake in the classroom and the upside down lab’s tentacle monster thingy
and how one is shown as an innocent thing brutally murdered, then we have the tentacle which is controlled by kay / even tortured, acting out of natural fear, in a similar set up to the snakes red cage (also then with the dart parallels with jake particularly)
and the all creatures welcome sign on the door (very much like the alien all welcome poster in the middle school in one of the earlier seasons)
I see all of your Dean is Smart Discourse today and you are absolutely correct. Dean’s ignorance is performative.
This post was partially instigated by my falling into a wormhole googling things about Ramble On today (thanks @im-shaking-like-milk for those earworms) and all things therefore Tolkien/LOTR related -
y’all remember this scene?
the line -
DEAN Listen, I may not be able to carry the burden that comes along with these trials... But I can carry you.
the “I can carry you” line he semi-quoted is from Return of the King. I had to google that to figure it out, btw, and I’ve read all the books AND I’ve seen the movies (a while ago, but still). Dean knowing instantly it was said by “the Rudy hobbit,” to me, speaks VOLUMES. Dean’s not a himbo, he just plays one on tv.
Also, remember the J*hn Winchester journal discourse Of Yore, and how little Dean wanted to go to school so badly, how excited he was whenever he got to go? And how Sam left to go to college, and for that J*hn thought he deserved to go to hell?
And how in After School Special (the one I fondly refer to as The Red Shorts One), how that young Dean doesn’t care about anything other than getting with girls, doesn’t seem interested in school, or in learning at all? Oh now I’m drawn back, I'm drawn back to that other post about how the timeline of that episode and Bad Boys puts Dean’s 17th birthday right in between the two. Sigh.
Yeah. I’m angry now, too.
Your society does not care about you. The people who are there to listen to you are deaf. The people who are supposed to help you are corrupt. In our union, you will always be cared for. You will always have someone who listens. You will always have someone to keep you safe.
We stand united against the universe. There is no danger we can not overcome. There is no fight we can not win. There is no peace we can not obtain. We work as one, we act as one. We are one. A union with us results in great power, in a satisfying life, in a world filled to the brim with possibilities. Won't you join us?
You fear the unknown. You consider us an enemy. We are an ally. We can help you. All you have to do is help us first.
You are so very lonely. We can sense it. You are destroying yourself to feel alive. Join us, and you will never have to be alone. You will never have to suffer in silence again.
You can already do so much. Imagine what you could do with a thousand minds, all working in unison. We can help you, but only if you accept our way.
