oh yikes.
will quite literally has an antenna "protruding" through his head
Unknown Hero Agent Man's Death vs. The Pipe Scene
Okay! So, I was rewatching the pipe burst scene recently and realized something.
We've seen Mike and Will in a very similar situation before; with Unknown Hero Agent Man's death in the back of the van.
I won't show the part of them piling their hands on top of each other while applying pressure to his open wound, but I think we all remember what it looked like.
Of course, one is more gruesome than the other, but these scenes still parallel.
The boys (and Jonathan) are all franticly applying pressure to the wound, even grabbing napkins to help, like Will tried using his jacket, but there's also a resemblance with Mike begging Will to get something to write on and Mike volunteering Will to take off his jacket to stop the leak.
After they fail, and Harmon (unknown hero agent man) dies, what do we see Mike and Will doing?
Burying the body.
And after that? This conversation about being afraid to open up about how you really feel. ("Because, what if they don't like the truth?")
A Season later, (4x05 --> 5x04) it's reversed. Mike is the one to contribute the "Big One" that caused the pipe to burst with his shovel.
Not only that, but this time around, Mike is digging an opening, instead of burying.
I think it's also worth mentioning that Mike is the one to poke his head out of the opening he dug as well. (Making him the first to notice the leak, too.)
Anyways. Unlike the Unknown Hero Agent Man incident, the water completely drenches the both of them as they try and contain the leak the same way they tried to stop the bleeding in the back of the van. (Saying this with the fact that Mike and Will barely got blood on them, apart from their hands , when trying to stop Harmon's bleeding).
Even the dialogue echoes all the "More pressure. Keep putting pressure!" in the van scene.
Does this mean Mike and Will are in a place where they can no longer contain their feelings for each other like they could a season ago? That, for Mike, he's finally met with these feelings face-to-face, and from this point on, won't be able to bury the hole he's just dug (or fix the pipe he's just burst)?
Season 2 + Season 5
i knew this scene reminded me of something.
mike and will are samfroing out! or however the kids say it lmao.
here's the actual parallel drawn.
both sam and mike are encouraging frodo and will, and they don't take it seriously at first (frodo does says than will, which i didn't include bc this post would be much longer lol and i can only fit so many images, but it did remind me of will's speech to mike in the van; frodo's whole "frodo wouldn't have gone far without sam" and will's whole "without heart we'd all fall apart/[i] need you mike, and [i] always will".)
this isn't meant to be taken too seriously, but i truly wouldn't be surprised if the duffers/paul ditcher come out one day and say they had this sweet scene between sam and frodo in mind while writing/directing mike and will's sorcerer conversation.
wait so like are we gonna talk about how vickie's throwing away dead purple and yellow flowers here.... like the dead ones from the end of s4? guys i don't think i even need to post analyses anymore
“Sometimes people need someone to believe in them. And then they can do amazing things.”
by the way, murray gave will a wheel.
you know. wheel-er. wheeler. yup.
A door opens in the middle of Mike and Will's heart-to-heart.
and suddenly, mike stops will in his tracks, and the conversation gets much more intimate.
not only that, but along with the very tender emotional music-esque score coming in on cue, the light grows more warm. it adopts a bigger presence in the scene as mike begins maneuvering everything in a way that can empower will in a very sweet, honest way.
and one more thing about light--
look at our beautiful boy basked in that golden hour light! this is how mike sees him, and it is also reflective of how mike is making him feel.
and just for fun:
if you recall, gentlemen after dark's "open the door" plays in 3x01, and the famous lyrics "love that was new to you, you open up the door" play over the montage that includes will claiming he's not gonna fall in love!
HELLO, film student's opinion incoming:
the fact that will and mike weren't out of focus at all during this scene despite joyce and the others having dialogue (while the boys didn't yet) means that we are meant to notice mike and will's behavior! we are meant to glance over and observe them!
especially due to the fact that mike is the one not-so-subtly initiating the shoulder bump.
will sends a signal.
and boom, shared look.
hey guys srry i don't rlly use this acc anymore, my dms are lowkey broken but i plan on using it when i want to make parallel/analysis posts since that's what i've been doing for a while so yeah! more active on my alt @neverrsurrender !
vol 1 has been kicking my ass like damn
joyce can tell when her boy is fond of someone
and when he's in love
and on the other hand, who will trusts the most/how that person cherishes that and takes action to protect him
so i think we all know what to expect from this upcoming herat-to-heart
someone (vecna/the mind flayer?) has had their eye on the wheelers for a whiiiile now.
we still don't really know how will's spying will work as of season 5, but it's just the idea of vecna's former spy being in such close proximity with the family he's presumably been stalking/preying on possibly since season 2.
spoilers below the cut!
@bylerween Day 5 - Radiowaves -- Fanscript
Had a little thought that in the earlier days of Hawkins quarantine Mike and Will would listen to Rockin Robin in case she'd send out any coded alerts of danger in the area.
And of course, Mike has learned morse code after the event in the Byers' shed.
(Some inspiration was drawn from the Day 5 playlist as well!)
THEYRE COMMUNICATING TELEPATHICALLY AND THEY KNOW WE KNOW
the question was how mike and will’s relationship evolved
EDIT: this is MY video. i took this on 10/19/24 at 4:38pm at upside down con/epic con.
Guys im still 100% convinced that they are not going based off votes and are choosing eps most important to the s5 plot
