Let's appreciate how the rune harp that talks about Eva is such a knife twister.

"Hide her deep, the despised child, our shame shown in shell of iron. She is a wish cast vain, divinity mimicked in form too frail."

It's bad enough on its own, but it's made all the worse by how Eva herself doesn't seem to blame or resent her mothers at all, despite the implication that she was just deadass abandoned when everyone else fled. (she seems to have been a rare mild-mannered/gentle (half-) Weaver, in the way Markoth was a token martial Moth - being some degree of a mindreader/ able to "see the shape of people's hearts" might make you more sympathetic to people in general. )

But also, there's the added layer that Hornet must definitely have thought "Wow is that how they used to talk about me behind my back? Or would have, if I hadn't come out strong & useful to them?"

It's part of that whole 'cruelty begetting cruelty' motif where at least some of the Weavers effectively did onto their hybrid/demigod offspring as their own 'Mother' did onto them.

It's no coincidence that we find poor Eva abandoned to waste away in a hole, exactly like what the Grand Mother did with First Sinner and Phantom.

Also makes you appreciate how Herrah must have made a great effort to run her faction differently, though a single leader can only change & shut down entrenched attitutes so much. When Hornet first meets Widow she finds her "horribly twisted in purpose" and finds what they're doing with Bellhart an atrocious "misuse" of their powers, but from the testimonies of Shakra, Caretaker, Mask Maker or Cardinius, it seems Widow's antics were actually quite in line with how most ppl in Pharloom seem to remember the Weavers' stewardship - it's the Deepnest faction that was the exception, enough so that Hornet has the immediate reaction of 'what sicko would do such a thing?'

(though things like the effigies & various signs etc. that there were at least some Weavers in Pharloom that were more responsible/ different as individuals)

We can't say how reliable the statements about Grand Mother being the more typical case really are (as they come from natives of Pharloom mostly familiar with its history) but everything you could say about PK (and WL too!) standing out by contrast as imperfect creatures genuinely trying to do their best could also be said about Herrah and her faction of Weavers.

Just some extras here. Minimal background and one without the silk and Eva effects because I kinda liked how it came out, ahah

I will be calling this ship art even if it’s subtle and I don’t know if uhm. Anyone except me ships it. Vague Eva design here is a mash-up of the Sylphsong inventory symbol, the Entwined achievement image, and sort of the actual Sylphsong effect

The difference between how you acquire the ability to regenerate Soul and Silk respectively in both games is so funny.

In Silksong it is acquired from a kindred soul, a friend Hornet deeply respects and understands. Someone Hornet clearly needed, someone who can understand her treatment from her Aunts.

Eva is a mythical thing, she is an artificial life form that was created for Weavers to have their own god. She is a failed attempt that needs her iron coffin to stay alive. She has better Sight than most bugs and helps Hornet become more powerful and in tune with herself.

Her conversations with Hornet are full of lore and deepens our understanding of Hornet's character.

At the end of questline she request for Hornet to bind her to maybe grasp smallest bit of freedom.

It is easy to understand why binding her improves Hornet's ability to regenerate Silk, as Higher Beings can seemingly regenerate infinite amount of Soul and Eva being a failed attempt at creating a Higher Being, her binding improves Hornet's ability to regenerate Silk. It makes sense even though it is limited by the Game Mechanics, in lore version would be pretty much always active.

In Hollow Knight... game continues being frustratingly cryptic.

Salubra is one of the many traders we meet through the game. She isn't anything special outside of being an npc, therefore having a unique origin. She doesn't know people in the town are dead. She gives some lore drops but they are vague at best.

Their relation to Knight is Salubra being horny for Knight and that's that.

How the ability works is a mystery. It is called Salubra's Blessing when you gain it but I couldn't find an icon for it in the inventory.

Honestly it has two explanations.

Godseeker is right and Hallownest is randomly filled with gods, which would be hilarious actually. Pharloom attacks Hallownest, they get routed by jumpy guys then a Primal Aspid randomly kills Big Bad Yarn.

Knight is feeling good after being kissed and they pull from their random centuries worth Soul stock they must have as Vessels are capable of fitting a God inside themselves, Soul stock limitation is purely a game play mechanic.

Honestly contrast here is absolutely hilarious. Also if there's a Salubra Blessing icon please show it to me.

Also, the more I look the more I feel like Knight is randomly holding back. Like how you gain Abyss Shriek, Knight dude since when you could take Shade Form randomly? I am also pretty sure you can get it before Shade Cloak, so no. That shouldn't be an explanation.

Something I've always found interesting in how in both games is a certain contrast in how the various NPCs approach the main characters.

You can roughly split the characters into those who are more knowledgeable & hence know something of the protagonist's deal, but also approach them with certain... preconceived notions (expecting to see, say, an 'empty vessel' or 'a higher being vying for dominion') & those who just know the protagonists... as themselves, based on how they act, like they're any regular person - those who may not know their wild origin story, but are able to see the good & the 'humanity' in them where others don't.

Such as Elderbug, Mato, Cornifer or Cloth for Ghost vs. how the Dreamers, the White Lady see them or expect them to be. (or Hornet herself before they get to know each other)

Or, in Silksong, you have Hornet's friendships with Garmond, Sherma and Shakra vs. how Pharloom's Mask Maker, Styx and the Snails see her. (or Cardinius on account of the Weaver half)

There's also always a few NPCs that don't quite fit in either box - Eva is effectively the same thing as Hornet, or a 'failed attempt' at it; Quirrel is a similar situation as Ghost of not actually being new to the Hallownest.

And then there's Ogrim, who clocks Ghost instantly for who they are (as per his dream nail dialogue), but still treats them normally & goes on to have a super wholesome interaction with them.

...I wonder if he actually used to be the Pale King's own "wholesome grounding influence friend". Like most ppl I generally assumed that he may not necessarily be a reliable narrator as he's ostensibly somewhat inclined to denial & pink glasses, ppl would obviously be inclined to shill a personal hero or a leader they support. But it's not totally impossible that his admiration could have been as earned and merited as Cloth's or Sherma's.
