My name is Yemi, I’m a singer and educator. I spent so long in the dark place, I didn’t realise that I was addicted to depression. Feeling low was my high and I looked for ways to get high every day. It was only when I found real love and a collective who gave me love that I began the difficult process of letting go of my addictions.

I am still a work in progress but I am taking it one day at a time…❁

My band & I had a residency in Grand Gaube, Mauritius. On one of our days off, we ventured to an offshore restaurant on a nearby island called Gunners Quoin.  It was there that I heard ‘Sega’ music for the first time. I had no idea, ‘Sega’ is a long running genre across many Indian Ocean Islands & East African cultures. A young musician performed as I took this image but I can still hear him playing & singing in my soul…❁
