One upon a time in Paris, France, I travelled to document a concert.
Amidst the hustle & baguettes, I reconnected with my appreciative self & enjoyed my time immensely…🏵

I leave behind the concerns of corporate conglomerates or the fears of the self righteous or the duress of the mighty or angry masses.
I focus on my many minuscule moments of bliss, happily devoid of anguish, yet understanding all I have accomplished is a sign that this is the ‘utopians’ true purpose…🏵

Self Abandonment is not practical
It becomes easy & easy & easier over time: to abandon yourself to the banality of survival.
It gets exceedingly easy to consider the needs of others over your need for expression.
But the deeper you take your artistry into the mire of nothingness is the brighter your light burns.
The darkness that surrounds you will always amplify your light until you & only you, snuffs it out through self abandonment (despite that process is completely impractical)…🏵

In the summer of 2014, I made my first feature film. It was a 80mins long experimental film about Fear, Desire, Hope & Love.
This is a completely silent film but during its many screenings, my band & I provided a live score.
The film show was successful & I got many gigs. These gigs inspired me to turn one of my epic poems about ‘love’ into a narrative short named ‘Perfect’ in 2015.
The Perfect film led to a host of short films made by me & then I wrote & directed my award winning 2nd feature named ‘STASH’ 2016-2019.
My filmmaker journey all began when I made ‘Amplifier’ and took my storytelling to new heights.
The processes of writing, directing & working as a solo crew unwittingly changed my whole artistic trajectory.
I make films with a crew of one unapologetically & developing those skills eliminated many of my artistic challenges & costs.
I have learned I must always follow the vibe because Art needs artists not doubters…🏵

In 2006, I released my third studio album. It is one of my proudest moments as a poet, producer & recording artist.
As a musician, I have a sound like no other. No one on planet Earth sounds like me. This album proves that wholeheartedly.
I made this record with the help of some incredible artists such as Derek Johnson, Tunde Jegede, Steve Lowe, Sona Jobarteh & Jose Joyette. As an electronic artist, they helped me move toward a more acoustic sound mixed with adventurous music making.
Tunde brought a chamber orchestra style, Derek brought his BluDub sound, Sona brought Malian elegance, Steve brought sonics, Jose brought Soulfulness & I brought lyricism, angst & beauty.
This album is probably my best work but it stands as a statement against banality, against conformity & most importantly it brought me freedom of expression.
If you ever get to listen to Spoken Herbs you may be surprised such wondrous beauty can exist without popularity, but remember: greatness is often hidden.
My album got released 20 years ago & I am proud of it…🏵
