Imperial German Navy U-boat SM UB-32 torpedoed the HMHS Gloucester Castle (His Majesty's Hospital Ship) #OnThisDay Mar 31 1917. Three died but she was salvaged, towed back to port repaired and returned to civilian service after the war.

IWM (Q 70000), IWM (Q 20870) 

German High Command decreed that Hospital Ships were legitimate targets and sunk a number of Allied Hospital Ships.
