favorite word?
super chuffed to receive this ask cuz i'm a nerd about cool words :D thank you!
my two favorite words are ostensibly and copacetic! if you want to pick one, choose the latter. i see it's on the list a few times already :o
ostensibly: purportedly/apparently but perhaps not actually. i like this one because it's just insanely useful for capturing uncertainty and other nuance in a more formal, concise way.
copacetic: informal term for things being "all good," i.e. "everything's copacetic." no idea where it originates from! (it has some interesting/mysterious etymology.) i really like the idea it gets across, and the way it sounds in general. feels personal to me in some ways! also i heard it first in a machine girl song lol. wish it was used more often.
some other favorites of mine: paracosm, umwelt, apocryphal, somnambulism, anachronism, anagnorisis, aviator, icarian, faustian, cirrus, arcus, phantasmagoria, contrail, acronycal, empyrean, redshift, trinket, moxie, deign, impetus, panacea, tacit, tandem, apropos, apricity, jetsam, chutzpah, subnivean, microcosm.
and also: aviothic and casadastraphobia, although they aren't "real words" in the sense that i don't think they're documented in dictionaries (but what is a "real word" anyways?)
feel free to pick one of those to list instead if you want a more unique one! i love them all.
sidenote: a cool site for rare words that i haven't seen shared around in a while is the phrontistery! they are usually too obscure for regular use but it's fun to look at
another good site for more practical purposes is one look, great for use as a thesaurus and word-finding tool
