i guess maybe i have pretty diff tastes from ppl in novels and dramas but it really baffles me when i see the low rating for if koi on mdl (and on NU but that's sorta skewed since there's not a lot of ratings and just one bad rating instantly drops it so it is what it is)

but i do feel like the rating is unnecessarily low esp when i compare the quality of the drama, the cinematography, the actors, the acting... to a lot of other dramas that made me cringe. so maybe ppl are just blind or don't have the patience for a more serious & introspective type of drama? idk but :/

I Whine About A Good Show

I feel like Matt pretty dramatically mis-judged the forces making the players decide to go into this battle.

He discusses in Talks this week about how he was trying to give in-narrative hints about the battle with the Iron Shepherds being above M9′s pay grade. All of the examples he gives are super legit, and possibly/probably could have driven the party to another course of action had half the party not been being held hostage. The stakes of walking away just felt too high.

Matt was caught off-guard by Laura and Travis’ early absence, and I feel like the abduction method of getting the characters out of the narrative ended up forcing the narrative in this direction. Of course, the players had other options, particularly knowing that getting Jester + Fjord + Yasha back would actually pose a logistical problem on a meta level. But it really felt like the characters, in a state of non-trivial desperation, didn’t have those same options.

I still love Matt & this show & everyone is just doing their best with a tricky situation! It is an intricate and improvised story. I am just feelin’ my feelins.
