Hello. I translate Japanese BL light novels in my free time. I choose all sorts of genres, depending on which novels catch my fancy. There are some modern day, alternate universes, and timey/period stories, as well as modern day supernatural! Here's a list of my current finished and ongoing projects.

i'm reading another exorcism novel by same author of shikigami, and i saw theres a manga of it that came out this year so i looked thru the sample on amazon. and damn... they just... watered the story down to really focus on the main cp? at least from the sample, it looks like they really cut down on the two brothers and their closeness. and even the beginning, that starts with a memory of the mc's, he's supposed to be with his aunt when he's getting saved by the ml, but looks like the manga just axed the poor aunt LOL

anygays, i wont be buying that bc i dont like the art im too picky but :/ this is why novels > all else bc too much is lost QAQ

also wow february was reallyyyyyyy bad, i did absolutely nothing, read nothing. but BTS is back and saved me once more so life is good (not really, but i can pretend while i have arirang with me) anyways, im trying to get back into reading more again and attempting to work on the extras of shikigami, im so sorry i really havent done any translation QAQ i miss it but ooff... maybe if i were normal

also idk if ill continue this series bc its 11 books and i dont rly love the main cp's ...start in book 1. sighhh i wanted to like it but im really mad at one part in particular soooooooooo :( but i am kinda curious to MAYBE read vol2 but also i dont wanna buy it.

i read 99% of my novels on kindle bc amazon jp is the cheapest and easiest way. since i can easily look up words i dont know on the kindle as i read.

but i found some older umino sachi novels *pirating lol* except they're scanned QAQ luckily theyre simple rom-com as per usual so i dont have that many words i dont know BUT the one i started is all about baking and i dont recognize all the ingredients -_-

her plots are pretty predictable for me (well not the cause of the misunderstandings but usually that there is ONE and its that both sides were pining from the start lol,, this is a trend in her writing)

but that aside, i love and eat it up every single time. i was binging this novel yesterday cuz the angst is so good. i love the way she writes it every single time. it was so good i had to keep going until they cleared up their misunderstanding. and then usually its papapa time so i had to pause bc it was late at night. papapa reading continues today :D

Love Begins in the World of If Extra 4

“Ogami-san’s in trouble.”

Akihito didn’t know the details but guessing that something had happened, he finished up his work and when he rushed over to the mentioned izakaya, loud commotion erupted from inside. It was a Friday night and not to mention, the new fiscal year had just begun. It was noisy and crowded and seemed like some people were even throwing a welcoming party for their new recruits.

As Akihito glanced around from the doorway, Tomioka, sitting at a table further in the back, stood up and waved his arm wildly, “Kanou-san, over here.”

Akihito hurried over to the table and widened his eyes in surprise. Because Ogami, dressed in a suit and red-faced, was slumped over the table overflowing with empty glasses and plates.

“What happened here?”

“Exactly what it looks like. Ogami-san got wasted. We finished work early today so we came to have a drink together, but it seems like he was more exhausted than I thought. I don’t think we even drank that much though,” Tomioka cocked his head; his face was also quite red.

“So, why did you call me over?”

“Because Ogami-san won’t listen to anything I say and won’t wake up. But I thought if it’s you, Kanou-san, he might listen.”

Love Begins in the World of If Extra 3

“If only I hadn’t dozed off back then…! If I hadn’t done that then I wouldn’t have been thrown into this world!” 

“Oh wow,” Akihito murmured in a deflated voice. He’d fallen down some stairs and ended up in a parallel world, but it seemed like this main character had taken a nap and was thrown into another world. 

Can’t even peacefully take a nap, Akihito thought to himself and gulped down his beer. The beer can was now completely empty and his vision unsteady. It was just one 500 milliliter can, but it seemed like he was drunker than he thought. Before when he’d gone drinking with Ogami, he easily drank three mugs of beer. He remembered Ogami’s face as they sat at the yakiniku table and chatted, the grill between them. 

Which Ogami was that again… ?

That world’s Ogami and this world’s Ogami. Each time Akihito blinked, the two’s faces switched. He gradually couldn’t tell which face belonged to which Ogami. Akihito’s eyes closed and he collapsed face down onto the table. 

The late-night anime was still playing. 

The protagonist was still unable to leave the other world.

a phrase that appears sometimes that i always get rly angry with (i think both times happen to be by the same author) is どうもこもない

like i understand it but i have noooooooooo idea how to translate it. i cant even explain it if i were asked to.

the last line of this extra, akihito is so cute

it has me in my room talking to myself going "HE'S SO CUTE"

i think this was already obvious from akihito's decision to choose real-world ogami, but he really is such an M. this extra is confirming it even more.

i do have a confession about if koi...

back when i heard that they're making a drama out of it ... i was a bit skeptical. because out of the 10 novels i read by umino sachi, i didn't think it was the *best* choice for a drama. it's definitely in my top 5 of the 10, but i thought because the romance is so minimal and because it's so focused on character growth and *work* i thought maybe people wouldn't love it as much? so i was a little worried because for the first adaptation of umino sachi's works, i'm like nooo ppl are gonna be disappointed/bored but she's the best!!

but jokes on me, because this drama is soooo beloved and i'm so glad :') honestly after rereading the novel (while translating) i did end up liking it more than the first time around. what this also tells me is that people seem to be wanting more serious(?) and relatable MCs in their dramas- and i totally agree.
