HMS Gloucester was a ‘Southampton’ Class cruiser, built in Devonport dockyard and engined by Scotts. Laid down in September 1936, she was launched on the 19 October 1937, and completed in January 1939. Overall length was 591 feet 6 inches, breadth 62 feet 4 inches and displacement 9,600 tons.
