This is Hnefatafl. I can't pronounce it, but it's a Viking era strategy game that is free to play and, well, I can't say whether it has ads or not, but it doesn't require an app. It doesn't have a free to play version that's 30 minutes long. No gatchas. It's... just.... a game!

I made a Viking chess board!

This is my first time woodburning and im pretty proud of myself even if it isn’t perfect

Btw I'm playing hnefatafl rn (the game of chess Dust and Horror played in tt au, it's actually quite nice) and the goal in basically to kill the king (white piece with the +) before it reaches the corners by surrounding it with four black pieces (it doesn't work if the king is against a wall tho, the pieces need to be all around it)

I'm playing the black pieces and uh

Pretty sure I won lmao but the computer (that I'm playing against and plays the white pieces, including the king) is being a sore loser and won't admit defeat

Like dude I litteraly made a fcking wall around your king lmaooo just accept you lost and move it to the left so I can kill it

The computer has just been moving its pieces around for like 10 minutes because it cannot kill any of my pieces like that ( to kill a piece you have to trap it between two of your pieces like ○●○ )

I litteraly managed to make the game endless and unplayable because the king is trapped but the computer won't move it since it means killing it and it is programmed to prevent the king from dying, so now it just endlessly moves its pieces even tho there is no way out for the king except throught death

I accidentally refreshed the page after taking the screenshot so the game sadly reloaded but I am still counting that as a win

If y’all haven’t played Hnefatafl before please consider. I have not won a single game I have played but they’ve all been against one brother and he keeps playing the invaders so that might have something to do with it. 🤔
