Okay, so since we've established my knowledge on the NHL is limited, settle this debate for me haha my friend and I are out for drinks and surprise! two hockey games are playing. I said something about the time out box and my friend was like the what? and I said, I think it's called the penalty box?? but isn't it basically a time out box? 🤣🤣🤣
Haha, yeah it’s called the penalty box. It is basically a time out box (tho it is also called the Sin Bin™). If a player commits a penalty (ie, high stick, tripping, slashing), they have to go sit in the time out box and their team plays short handed (4 players instead of 5). If it’s a minor penalty, they sit for 2 minutes, if it’s a double minor, it’s 4 minutes, and if it’s a major, it’s 5 minutes.
They then play 5 on 4 hockey until either the team on the power play (team playing with 5 players) score or the penalty time expires. If the power play team scores, the player can come out of the box. Tho if it’s a major penalty, they have to serve all 5 minutes and the other team can score as much as they want on 5 on 4 hockey (see the Sharks and Golden Knights game 7).
Also, who’s playing! You said two games are on and they’re only one NHL game on, so I’m wondering who’s playing? Is it the IIHF? AHL? OHL? College????
And feel free to ask any other questions about hockey and I’ll do my best to explain! xx
