i use 24 hour time, or military time, and not the 12-12 stuff alfred uses. i honestly don't know what it's called. either way, i'll use both metric and imperial so many people will be able to understand!!
im neutral about many ships including me (other than the ones in my bio), but i try not to post ship stuff in particular. platonic ships are fine! i love friends

as said above, matthew uses the 24 hour clock. i grew up on the am/pm 12 hour clock, so i may confuse myself on accident. i've been using military time for about two years though now, so i've gotten used to it (lie). fahrenheit vs celsius on the other hand.......
i may be american but i like to use grey instead of gray, but i usually switch between them. the more i dedicate my time to this and the more i play the call of duty campaigns the more i sound like a brit... help

could you explain hockey to a person who has just started watching it for the first time? you seem very knowledgable
WOOHOO! oh boy do i have stuff to tell you
okokok so... its like soccer/football except you hit the ball with a stick. theres a bunch of different types, most common are ice hockey, field hockey, and floor hockey (probably)
field hockey is typically on a grass field with a ball (the size is usually between a baseball and a softball) and the stick has a curved, u-shape end thats rounded on one side (think of a golf club)
floor hockey is the one usually taught in schools (at least american ones HAH) and its taught inside, usually a hard wood floor, and the sticks have a flatter end thats thinner and not rounded unlike the field hockey stick
ice hockey! ice hockey is the best one i swear. ice hockey is basically floor hockey but youre skating on an ice rink
ok! ice hockey time because the other ones are more boring (/hj)
in ice hockey there's three periods of thirty minutes with around 15 minute intervals. there's two teams and only six players (including goalie) are allowed on the ice for each team at a time. hockey is tiring and demands a lot physically, so players may be swapped out in periods. (i don't think goalies can be swapped out but there's usually only one or two other goalies to choose from soo..)
if there's more than six players on the ice for a singular team at one time, that team gets a penalty and sometimes a player has to be moved to the play room (penalty box). theres other ways to get penalties, like beating someone up for instance. different penalties have different amounts of time in the box, but it's usually around 2 minutes. there can be more than one player in the box! each team has their own box too, forgot to mention that. while there's people in the box, that team may not replace the missing persons until their time is up.
the goal is to get the puck into the other team's goal! when this happens, that team gets the point. the team with the most points at the end of the third period wins! if it's a tie, they go into overtime where it's just another period. whoever gets a point first in overtime wins the game! they can go into another overtime and probably more, especially in the playoffs/final games of the season as the stakes are higher and no one wants to lose. kind of like volleyball!
positions! the goalies are self explanatory; its the same roles as soccer/football. only the goalie is allowed in the net area
the forward (or forward center) is the person who is in the front and is the closest to the puck at the beginning (similar to american football)
the defensemen are the two in the back, the left defenseman being to the southwest of the forward and the right being to the southeast
the wings are the two on the either side of the forward, the left winger being to the left and the right to the right. so amazing i know
oftentimes, the players numbers correspond with their position, but its more lenient nowadays and it doesnt affect gameplay
for instance, heres suzuki. his number is 14 and hes a forward center for the habs (thats what we call the canadiens; dont ask)
and heres the last habs vs carolina hurricanes game from monday. for the habs, dobes, their goalie, got three goals against and 36 saves. 36 saves means that he saved 36 shots from entering the goal and three goals against means that three of the opposing shots made it past him and into the goal. matheson and hutson made one goal each for their team!
i know this isnt really in depth for watching, but its a good starting place! the nhl website has a glossary of terms and has a live radio for each game. i was listening to the last game on the canadiens radio because i didnt feel like getting out of bed to turn my tv on in another room to watch it.. i was pretty tired that night
