Have you looked into specific human myths about fairies, like brownies and red caps? If so what's your favorite one?
Well...there are two different groups that go by the name of Redcaps. There’s the Scottish Faeries who live in the ruined border castles between Scotland and England. They were said to not be affected by iron and to soak their caps in the blood of their victims, hence their name. Other than a single ballad by J Leyden entitled “Lord Soulis" that details the story of a Nobleman who tried to keep a Redcap trapped and use it as his familiar and how it eventually led to his horrific demise, I have been unable to find any specific story about this kind of Redcap. Mostly they are referenced by other works and described generally. If there are more stories of this kind that you know of that come from a reputable source, please DM me and connect me to them. However there are other kinds of Redcap. They range from Dutch Folklore and even some Cornish Faeries, sounding much more benevolent and more similar to the Scottish Brownies and Irish Leprechaun. For a favorite specific myth about Brownies. Hmmm....There are lots of these. You might know a popular one that got turned into a story about elves, “The Elves and the Shoemaker”. But personally I have always found “The Copinsay Brownie“ from the Orkney Islands to be amusing. Also it is worth noting for its combination of the Brownie with the Hogboon and Sea-Trow Folklore.
